For a first two-player game, the starting point is the Icons 2027 Edition Starter Box, listed on Asmodee USA’s official store. It is not on shelves yet: the listing gives a planned release date of November 20, 2026, so as of October 8, 2026 you can only check it as an upcoming product. If you already play and want more cards, buy by set name. Individual booster packs and 24-pack booster displays are different products, and the listing for each should be read before you order.
Start with the starter box if you are new
The Icons 2027 Edition Starter Box is the most directly relevant current product for someone who needs everything to play a game with a friend. Asmodee USA’s listing (accessed October 8, 2026) describes the following contents:
- Two pre-built 30-card decks
- Two booster packs
- Two deckbuilding expansion packages
- Counters, playmats, and rules
The listing states two players, an age rating of 12+, and an average play time of 30 minutes. Fantasy Flight Games has said the game was designed to be accessible: Jim Cartwright, the company’s product strategy director, told StarWars.com that “whether you are a casual player, competitor, or collector, there’s something for everyone in this game.”
Because the starter already includes playmats and deckbuilding materials, you do not need to buy anything else to start playing.

Booster packs and displays: what you are actually buying
Booster products are set-specific. The name on the listing tells you which cards you will receive, so match it to the cards you want before buying. The Icons 2027 Edition products, as listed by Asmodee USA on the same date, compare as follows:

A display suits a player who wants several packs at once. A single pack suits someone topping up a collection or testing a set. Neither is necessary to start playing if you buy the starter box.
Older sets may be sold out
Asmodee USA’s Star Wars: Unlimited collection lists products from several sets, and availability varies between them. When the A Lawless Time Booster Display page was accessed, the item showed as sold out. Do not assume that every older set is available from the publisher or any other seller. If you want a specific older set, check the product page’s stock status and then ask a local game shop whether it has stock.

Optional accessories
Asmodee also lists game-specific deck boxes (described as deck pods) and playmats. These are storage and play-surface upgrades. The starter box already includes playmats, so buy accessories only if you want more storage or a different play surface.
Where to check stock and buy
- Start with the official Asmodee USA Star Wars: Unlimited collection. It shows both in-stock and out-of-stock products, and those signals change over time.
- Confirm the exact product before you buy: the set name, whether it is a starter box, a single booster, or a 24-pack display, and the listed stock status.
- Check a local game shop for stock and for organized play, especially if you want to play in person. A specific local store cannot be recommended without knowing your location.
- Check regional dates. Fantasy Flight Games’ update of September 25, 2026 said that limited initial supply and possibly incomplete retailer assortments could affect the Homeworlds set in some regions, with replenishment to follow. In Australia and New Zealand, the revised dates were October 15 for prerelease and October 16 for release. This update concerns Homeworlds only and should not be applied to every Star Wars: Unlimited product.
