There are 49 journals to collect in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. They’re spread across story areas, optional locations and the Continent; the checklist below groups them by location so you can find entries even when their names have not yet appeared in your Journal screen. Guides associate the complete set with the Follow the Trail achievement. PowerPyx, Push Square and Gamer Guides each list 49 entries.
Before you start: journal tracking and prerequisites
- Check the Journal screen to see collected entries, but don’t rely on it as a complete list of what remains: entries you have not found may not be displayed. Use the location checklist below to track unknown entries.
- Several journals depend on story progress, optional areas, traversal abilities or defeating a boss. If a route or landmark is inaccessible, return when you have progressed further or gained the required ability.
- The Survivor journal is behind a gate in Old Lumiere that requires the Old Key. Guides place the key in the Prologue; if you are past that point without it, check your inventory and current-version game behavior before assuming the journal is permanently missable.

Named and Unknown journals
These entries are easy to overlook if you’re checking only the names currently visible in the menu. The descriptions in parentheses identify the Unknown journals by their opening words.
- Verso — Continent: Fly to the raised area west of Forgotten Battlefield. The journal is behind the enemies; Julie is on the same platform.
- Aline — The Monolith, Tainted Battlefield: At the tombstone split, take the Manor door on the left branch and search the room.
- Renoir — Old Lumiere, Manor Gardens: Enter the Manor through the broken wall near the flag. Find the journal on a bedroom table.
- Unknown (“people come and people go”) — The Canvas: Obtain the Manor Family Canvas and place it in the Manor’s empty frame. Enter the room that opens at the end of the hall.
- Unknown (“art can be a Window”) — Visages, Anger Vale: Take the first cave path on the right and enter the Manor. Continue into the next room; the journal is by the bed.
- Unknown (“You speak to me of perfection”) — The Reacher, Ladder Area: Follow the right-hand path near the burnt-looking Orphelins to the Manor door.
- Survivor — Old Lumiere, Left Street: After the first enemy, go through the hole beside the pipe. Unlock the gate behind you with the Old Key to reach the journal.
- Julie — Continent: On the raised, fly-accessible platform west of Forgotten Battlefield, beside the tents and near Verso.
- Simon — The Abyss / Renoir’s Drafts: Defeat Simon, then collect the journal beside the place where he was sitting.
Expedition journals by location
The numbered expedition entries below are grouped by area rather than journal number, making it easier to clear a region while you are there. The list includes numbers that skip between locations; use the journal identifier as written, not a consecutive count.

Continent and islands
- Expedition 40: On the small island in the northwest, beside a Gestral shop.
- Expedition 43: On the island near the wandering Chromatic Reaper Cultist.
- Expedition 47: Northeast of Gestral Beach, near Monoco’s Station. Check the right side before the enemies.
- Expedition 62: North of Gestral Village, behind a breakable-rock area that requires Esquie.
- Expedition 64: At an abandoned camp on the shore south of the Meadows. Another guide index places the location east of Ancient Gestral City and notes Esquie’s swim ability.
- Expedition 78: At Stone Wave Cliffs, Entrance, climb the rope near the entrance flag to the upper ledge.
Early and midgame areas
- Expedition 34 — The Crows: Near the entrance flag.
- Expedition 35 — Falling Leaves, Resinveil Grove: Follow the central route toward the floating enemies. Look to the left by a ramp.
- Expedition 36 — White Tree: In the middle of the area.
- Expedition 37 — Gestral Beach: Beside the area exit; the location index says reaching it requires flying.
- Expedition 38 — Yellow Harvest, Harvester’s Hollow: Drop down from the flag, then climb the ramp on the right to the upper area.
- Expedition 39 — Visages, Sadness Vale: Take the right path near the floating mask toward a ruined camp.
- Expedition 41 — Forgotten Battlefield, Vanguard Point: At the Fading Woman split, go right, then take the first left near a burning Nevron body.
- Expedition 44 — Yellow Harvest, Harvester’s Hollow: From the flag, drop down and look to the left of the ramp, near the bodies.
- Expedition 45 — Crushing Cavern: Defeat the blocking boss, climb to the upper floor and continue past the visible pickup.
- Expedition 48 — Stone Quarry: To the right of the Nevron.
- Expedition 49 — Falling Leaves, Resinveil Grove: Complete the boy and Lady of Sap interaction sequence to open the gate. Climb the rope and search the upper platform.
- Expedition 50 — Stone Wave Cliffs: Go beyond the Paintress Shrine. At the split, take the left path near the bodies.
- Expedition 51 — Frozen Hearts, Icebound Train Station: Follow the route past the caves and train car to the large door.
- Expedition 52 — Gestral Village, Entrance: Follow the arena signs, then take the small path to the left of the last sign.
- Expedition 53 — The Small Bourgeon: Follow the path on the left of where the white Bourgeon was and search the back corner.
- Expedition 54 — Stone Wave Cliffs Cave: On the ground to the right of the Chromatic Hexga.
- Expedition 55 — Sirene, Dancing Classes: After the first two enemy groups, look right by the group of three enemies and the large dancers.
- Expedition 56 — Stone Wave Cliffs, Entrance: After the crystal enemy, follow the left-side path toward the statue.
- Expedition 57 — Forgotten Battlefield, Vanguard Point: Pass behind the Fading Woman into the open area before continuing toward Ancient Bridge.
- Expedition 59 — Yellow Harvest, Yellow Spire Wrecks: From the flag, take the left path to the pillar.
- Expedition 61 — The Reacher, Foggy Area: On the main route, at the platform before the balloon to Peak.
- Expedition 63 — Ancient Sanctuary, Sanctuary Maze: Near Giant Bell Alley, take the middle-left route between the farthest brush-headed statues to reach the lower area.
- Expedition 66 — Esquie’s Nest, Francois’ Cave: After Francois, follow the new route back toward the entrance and check the tents on the right.
- Expedition 68 — Flying Waters, Coral Cave: On the main route shortly before the open area with the large Nevron.
- Expedition 69 — Visages, Joy Vale: Follow the left path and check the ledge with two enemies.
Late areas and story rewards
- Expedition 42 — Old Lumiere, Manor Gardens: Return after completing the area. Take the newly opened path on the left, descend the rope and continue past the enemy to the sword.
- Expedition 46 — Sirene’s Dress: At the back of the area. PowerPyx notes this journal is needed for Lune relationship level 6.
- Expedition 58: Awarded automatically after completing the Old Lumiere main area and returning to camp.
- Expedition 60 — Lumiere, Shattered Alley: At the Opera House, go right to the pier prompt and use it to have Esquie retrieve the item.
- Expedition 65 — Monoco’s Station: Leave by the back of the area; the journal is on the left before the exit.
- Expedition 67 — Sirene, Crumbling Path: After taking the elevator behind the snake miniboss, check the room before Dancing Arena.
- Expedition 70 — The Monolith, Tainted Lumiere: At the flower stalls, go around to the right and follow the grapple points across broken ground.
- Expedition 81 — Spring Meadows: Obtained automatically during the story.
- Expedition 84 — The Fountain: In a corner past Blanche.
What to check if you are missing one
- Missing a named entry? Check the nine named and Unknown locations first; their uncollected names may not appear in the Journal screen.
- Can’t reach a listed area? Some locations require flying, swimming, Esquie, a story unlock or an optional-area route. Revisit after gaining access rather than treating the entry as absent.
- Finished Old Lumiere but lack Expedition 42 or 58? Expedition 42 is on a return path that opens after completing the area; Expedition 58 is awarded after completing the main area and returning to camp.
- Still short after visiting every listed area? Recheck the local landmarks and prerequisites in the relevant entry. The list contains 49 journals overall, but some are automatic rewards and others sit behind optional interactions, boss fights or gates.
