The one Alpha location this guide can verify in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is an Alpha Pidgey at level 26, on the right rooftop of Wild Zone 1. Wild Zone 1 is south of Hotel Z, near Vert Sector 8. Nintendo Life’s guide reports that Alpha encounters begin only after you meet Emma and complete three side missions, so the zone being open from the start does not make this Alpha available immediately.
Where the Alpha Pidgey is
| Pokémon | Area | Specific location | Level | Unlock condition | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alpha Pidgey | Wild Zone 1, south of Hotel Z near Vert Sector 8 | Right rooftop | 26 | Zone open from the start; Alpha encounters reported to begin after meeting Emma and completing three side missions | Nintendo Life guide |
Pidgey appears on the rooftops of this zone in the guide’s encounter table, and the guide’s Alpha table places the Alpha on the right-hand rooftop.
Reaching the rooftop
- Travel to Wild Zone 1, south of Hotel Z near Vert Sector 8.
- Get Rock Smash from Mable. Nintendo Life’s guide says the rooftops cannot be reached without it.
- Head to the right-hand rooftop and look for the Alpha Pidgey.
How Alpha encounters are unlocked
- Meet Emma.
- Complete three side missions.
- Once both are done, Nintendo Life reports that Alpha encounters begin. The guide does not name the three side missions in the material reviewed here, so check the in-game quest log for which ones are still open.
Catching an Alpha Pokémon
The Pokémon Company’s official “Making the Most of Your Adventure” page describes Alphas this way: “Alpha Pokémon are larger than their regular counterparts, have glowing red eyes, and are particularly powerful and difficult to catch.” It adds: “These alpha Pokémon will chase and attack you once they notice you, so do your best to avoid getting hit while battling.”
The same page gives general tactics for wild Pokémon, which apply to Alphas but are not a guaranteed method of catching one:

What this guide does not yet cover
Other guides publish longer Alpha location lists, but this page does not reproduce them because their entries could not be checked against an accessible source. The following are therefore not established here:
- A complete list of Alpha locations across the whole game.
- Any other fixed Alpha encounters beyond the Alpha Pidgey above.
- Whether Alpha spawns are randomized, and where.
- Whether time of day or weather affects any Alpha encounter.
- Whether Alpha locations differ between game versions.
Treat the Alpha Pidgey as the only confirmed entry, and check the game’s own map and quest progress for anything else you spot.
