From the Blasted Steps Bellway, go below it and look west of the central tall room for an entrance marked by a blue banner with crossed pins. Entering the conch-shell room seals its doorways and starts the fight.
How to reach the Great Conchflies
- Travel to the Blasted Steps Bellway.
- Head below the Bellway and west of the central tall room.
- Look for the entrance marked with a blue banner displaying crossed pins. Enter the conch-shell room to begin the encounter.
What to expect in the paired fight
The opening is a cue, not an attack window: one Great Conchfly flies in from the ceiling and the other from the floor. They meet and roar, then burrow away before the active fight begins. The two bosses share 400 HP, according to the community-maintained Hollow Knight Wiki.
The wiki uses the names Drill Dash, Conch Spit, and Drill Slam for the shared move set. Those are descriptive community labels, not confirmed canon attack names. Both bosses can be active in the same sequence, so keep track of the second one while responding to the first.
Drill Dash
A boss emerges from a wall, the floor, or the ceiling, crosses the arena, then burrows away. Watch for the emergence cue; if it makes a low horizontal pass, jump over it rather than trying to outrun it along the ground.
Conch Spit
One boss descends from a ceiling corner and spits a conch diagonally toward Hornet. The projectile bounces three times before breaking. You can hit it back toward the boss to deal 15 damage, according to the wiki’s encounter data.

Do not let the projectile absorb all your attention: after its second bounce, the other Conchfly may burrow and follow with a Drill Dash. Track both the bounce and the second boss’s position.
Drill Slam
One boss emerges from a ceiling corner, flies horizontally, then burrows down. The other may layer a dash or projectile attack over this sequence, so avoid committing to a long attack while both threats are moving.

Positioning and attack windows
The Hollow Knight Wiki’s guide suggests jumping once toward a wall and sliding down into a corner. It says this position keeps Conch Spit and Drill Slam from reaching Hornet, but a floor-level Drill Dash can still threaten you. Treat the corner as a way to simplify some angles, not as a safe spot: watch for the rumbling-sand pillar that marks an emergence and jump over a low dash.

When a boss finishes an attack and burrows away, use the brief lull to reposition or land a hit if the other Conchfly is not already attacking. Prioritize avoiding the next incoming move over chasing a boss across the arena.

What happens after you win
Defeating either Great Conchfly causes the other to retreat. The survivor returns later as the Raging Conchfly in the northwest of Sands of Karak. That is a separate follow-up encounter: the Raging Conchfly is faster and has altered attacks. Defeating it opens access to Coral Tower, where you can acquire the Conchcutter tool.
