There are seven Eternal Guards in Valor Mortis, one in each of seven regions. Defeating or looting every guard awards a Mysterious Stone Pyramid; the seven pyramids combine into the Mysterious Stone Slab. Return the slab to the Fortress, read the Codex of the Oathbound in its hidden chamber, and you will complete the Oathbound side quest and unlock the We Wear the Same Colours gold trophy.
Where do I find every Eternal Guard in Valor Mortis? Use the lantern-by-lantern routes below. The guards are not missable, so you can revisit earlier areas after obtaining the abilities needed for the harder encounters.

Where is the next Oathbound guard?
1. The Battlefields — Onslaught Arch
- Fast-travel to the Onslaught Arch lantern.
- Backtrack to the fork and take the right-hand path around the camp.
- At the next fork, take the left path.
- Destroy the growth blocking the wall with your pistol or rapier.
- Enter the newly opened passage to reach the Eternal Guard.
This is the first guard most players encounter while working through the Oathbound quest. Take the Mysterious Stone Pyramid after the fight.

2. Fallen Village — Marketplace
- Start at the Marketplace lantern and turn around.
- Go through the wagon.
- Before the shortcut, turn left and remove the growth with the relevant ability.
- Wall-run through the next section and continue into the cave.
The guard is inside the cave beyond the wall-run section. Defeat it and collect the second pyramid.

3. Valley of Ashes — The Climb
- Use the lift beside The Climb lantern.
- Follow the cliff beneath the large bridge.
- At the route split, stay on the lower green path that follows the cliff.
- Do not take the upward route; it bypasses the guard’s approach.
The Eternal Guard is at the end of this lower route. The key navigation check is staying beneath the bridge and resisting the higher path.
4. Caverns — Old Mine
This encounter requires Stasis Transmutation.
- Reach the lever and the movable crate in the Old Mine.
- Use the lever to raise the crate.
- Freeze the cogs with Stasis Transmutation.
- Stand on the crate while the mechanism is held in place.
- Release Stasis so the crate rises.
- Jump from the elevated crate to the upper platform, where the guard is waiting.
If the crate does not carry you high enough, check that the cogs remain frozen before you position yourself. The upper platform contains the fourth pyramid.

5. Cursed Hollow — Village Church
- Travel to the Village Church lantern and use the shortcut, or reach the church naturally through the story.
- Cross the open fields, keeping slightly to the left.
- Go around the hay.
- Look behind the house to find the Eternal Guard.
The church area can be revisited, so reaching this location through the main story is not the only route. Search behind the house rather than stopping in the open field.

6. City of Orphans — Shamble Street
You need Shield Transmutation to cross the poison safely.

- Begin at the Shamble Street lantern.
- Use the gate shortcut.
- Enter the area occupied by the tall enemies.
- Activate Shield Transmutation to cross the poison.
- Follow the alley through the building.
- Turn left at the opened route to reach the guard.
Shield Transmutation is acquired later in the story. If the poison blocks progress, leave the area and return after that ability unlocks instead of trying to force the crossing.
7. Fortress — Courtyard
- Start at the Courtyard lantern.
- Go through the arch on the left and follow the main route.
- Defeat the red-eyed enemy.
- After the fight, inspect the dead Eternal Guardist on the floor.
- Loot the corpse for the final Mysterious Stone Pyramid.
This is not a normal duel: the seventh Eternal Guard is already dead, and the objective is a loot interaction after the red-eyed enemy is defeated.

What abilities do I need to reach the Eternal Guards?
- Growth removal: needed for the blocked passage at Onslaught Arch and the route near the Marketplace. The Marketplace route also requires a wall-run.
- Stasis Transmutation: mandatory in the Old Mine to freeze the cogs and raise the crate to the upper platform.
- Shield Transmutation: mandatory for the poison crossing on the Shamble Street route. It becomes available later in the story.
The other locations rely on route choices, shortcuts and story access rather than a special traversal power. Because the guards are not missable, there is no penalty for postponing a location until the required ability is available.

How to finish the Oathbound quest
- Collect the pyramid from each of the seven locations.
- Once all seven are in your possession, they combine into the Mysterious Stone Slab.
- Take the slab to the Fortress.
- Enter the Fortress’s hidden chamber and read the Codex of the Oathbound.
- Completing the interaction finishes the quest and awards the We Wear the Same Colours gold trophy.
Common route mistakes
- Taking the wrong fork: Onslaught Arch requires right around the camp, then left at the next fork.
- Following the high path: In the Valley of Ashes, the guard is on the lower green cliff route under the bridge.
- Searching the wrong church area: In Cursed Hollow, circle the hay and inspect behind the house.
- Trying the poison too early: Return to Shamble Street after Shield Transmutation is unlocked.
- Expecting a seventh boss fight: The Fortress objective is looting the dead Guardist after defeating the red-eyed enemy.
