The fastest place to find firecaps in Fallout 76 is the Forest, starting at Slocum’s Joe. Work outward from the Overseer’s camp and the bus, then follow the railroad tracks north from the pink house with the yellow garage. If that cluster has already been picked over, Hocking Hills Station and the area northwest of Athens are the next most reliable options.
The Slocum’s Joe route, step by step
The community-maintained Fallout Wiki firecap entry gives the most detailed landmark directions. Its counts are reported quantities from player observation, not guarantees, so expect to find fewer plants on a busy server or after another player has already harvested the area.
- Start outside the Overseer’s camp beside I-59 near Slocum’s Joe. The wiki reports four firecaps here.
- Check the bus. Up to three are reported beside it.
- Check the building beside the bus. Look to the right of the building and behind it, then up the hill past the railroad track. One firecap is reported in each of these spots.
- Cross the river to the west. The wiki reports one or two firecaps across the river from the Nuka-Cola billboard.
- Move to the pink house with the yellow garage. It sits south-southeast of Slocum’s Joe. Up to four firecaps are reported around it.
- Follow the railroad tracks north. Scan both sides of the tracks toward the second bridge. The wiki describes sporadic spawns along this stretch, with the last one under that bridge.
Other reliable areas
If the Slocum’s Joe cluster is empty, these locations are the next most-reported starting points. Each count comes from the Fallout Wiki entry, and none is a guaranteed spawn.
| Area | Reported firecaps | Directions | Harvest status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hocking Hills Station | Four around the station, plus several more in unmarked ground to the south and two in the woods to the east | Search the ground around the station first, then the south and east edges | Harvestable plants as reported on the wiki |
| Athens / Hamley Run | At least seven | Wilderness northwest of Athens, behind Athens Armory, and along the route to the Hamley Run camp | Harvestable plants as reported on the wiki |
| Monorail elevator | Around five to six | In a basket beside a skeleton on a concrete slab at the base of the main southwestern pylon | Picked firecaps, not a standing plant, so they may not count toward a harvest-based challenge |
Smaller spawn points and map sources
The Fallout Wiki also lists smaller clusters across the map. Check these when the main routes are exhausted:

Blast zones and mutation
In a blast zone, the wiki’s item entry says firecaps mutate into blast caps. Harvesting blast caps yields raw crimson flux.

- Vault-Tec Agricultural Research Center: The loose firecaps downstairs are reported not to count toward challenges and are not affected by the Green Thumb perk.
- Respawn timing: No respawn interval has been established. Plants may not reappear on a predictable schedule, so checking a cluster again later is a matter of luck.
- Patch changes: The locations above come from community wiki and map data. Later game updates may have moved or removed spawns, and Bethesda’s release notes do not list firecap locations.
When you plan a challenge that needs harvested firecaps, confirm that the plant you pick is standing and not a loose item before you spend time on a route.
