In Diablo 4 Season 7, Restless Rot comes from fighting Headrotten in the Season of Witchcraft activities. For the seasonal loop, head to a Headhunt zone, complete Whisper bounties, and pursue the Headrotten encounters they reveal. Blizzard says higher difficulty tiers yield more Rot from Headrotten, but publishes no drop rate or best farming route.
How to get Restless Rot
- Go to a Headhunt zone. Complete its Whisper bounties as you work through the seasonal activities.
- Defeat Headrotten. They drop Restless Rot. Blizzard says higher difficulty tiers yield more Rot from slain Headrotten, but does not give a numeric rate.
- Follow the bounty trail to more encounters. Completing Headhunt Whispers reveals Exposed Roots. These can rarely spawn an Uprooted Cocoon, which brings in Headrotten bosses.
- Return a Fugitive Head to the Coven. Occasionally, a Headrotten boss appears with its Fugitive Head still attached. Kill it to obtain the Head, then bring it to the Coven.
Blizzard describes the seasonal Urn of Rot blessing as increasing the amount of Restless Rot dropped by slain Headrotten. If the blessing is available to your character, it can support this activity.

How the seasonal activities fit together
Headhunt Whispers connect bounty completion with Exposed Roots and their possible Cocoon encounters, making them a natural way to pursue more Headrotten while earning Rot. Rootholds are another part of the Season of Witchcraft loop: access them with Whisper Wood sigils found in Whisper Caches and Silent Chests. Blizzard describes Rootholds as bonus-challenge and reward content, but does not publish a Rot-per-hour comparison, so there is no confirmed best route.
Blizzard Watch also discussed farming options around the season’s launch, but those recommendations are secondary guidance, not a guaranteed yield or official ranking.

What Restless Rot is used for
Spend Restless Rot at Witches’ Altars near the Tree of Whispers to learn or upgrade Witchcraft Powers. Blizzard also says powers can be upgraded directly from the inventory.
Lost Powers use a separate unlock path: find a Forgotten Altar, which can appear in random dungeons throughout Sanctuary. Restless Rot is not the stated unlock method for those powers.
