In Horizon Forbidden West, the two commonly reported recurring Slitherfang sites are north of Scalding Spear and in the Stillsands north of Hidden Ember, near the Las Vegas ruins. North of Hidden Ember in the Stillsands
The other commonly reported site is in the Stillsands desert north of Hidden Ember, around the Las Vegas ruins. Try this location if it is closer to your current position or already visible on your map. The two sites are reported as places to revisit, but no source establishes that one offers better loot than the other. VULKK’s machine-resource farming guide and player reports describe these locations.
Why a Slitherfang encounter may not mark a site
Slitherfangs also appear in story missions. PowerPyx’s Slitherfang guide identifies the first main-quest encounter in “Reach for the Stars.” A mission encounter is distinct from a recurring open-world site, so having fought one during the story does not necessarily mean you have found either farming location.

What to do if the Scalding Spear site is missing
- Check north of Scalding Spear even if no site marker is showing.
- Explore the area to reveal undiscovered map locations.
- If the machine does not appear, continue the story and return later; player reports suggest availability may depend on progression, but do not establish a single trigger.
- Use the Stillsands site north of Hidden Ember as an alternative.
Slitherfang combat context
PlayStation describes the Slitherfang as a fast machine that attacks from long range and gains access to its full arsenal in a coiled stance. PowerPyx’s machine guide lists fire, frost, and plasma as weaknesses, and shock, purgewater, and acid as strengths. Prepare for a mobile, long-range opponent rather than treating the site as a safe resource stop.
