Where to search first
Freight Terminal / Railyard on Pendola Pass
This is the best-supported place to begin. One guide reports finding a Steel Cable lying loose on a wooden ramp at the edge of the yard during a raid when Freight Terminal was a high-value loot zone. Another guide also names the Railyard as a place its author had found the item. These are reported finds, not official loot-table data, and they do not establish that the cable appears only when the area is marked high-value. Check visible surfaces and ramps as you sweep the yard. Destructoid’s author reported finding Steel Cable as loose loot rather than in containers, so prioritize what is lying out in the open instead of spending your whole search opening containers. That observation does not prove containers can never contain it.

Destructoid also reports finding Steel Cable inside Fallen Emperor, but does not identify a particular room, floor, or landmark. Search for loose loot while passing through; the location lead is less precise than the Railyard ramp report.

Observatory
Players have mentioned Observatory as another possible location. This is an anecdotal lead rather than an independently documented spawn: the reports do not establish a specific spot, count, or reliable rate.
How to make a practical search
- If your raid begins nearby, sweep the Freight Terminal yard. Check the wooden ramp at the yard’s edge and other visible surfaces.
- Keep moving if the first sweep comes up empty. Consider Fallen Emperor or Observatory only if they fit your route and extraction risk; no verified loop duration or expected cable count per raid is available.
- Keep an eye on extraction risk. ARC Raiders is an extraction adventure, so weigh another search against the value of getting out with what you have. Raiders and machines are part of the game’s threats, as described on the official ARC Raiders site.
There is no published, attributable spawn-rate figure or controlled comparison for these locations. Treat them as search leads, not a guaranteed farm route.

What Steel Cable is used for
A community-maintained item page lists Steel Cable as a Rare recyclable item and gives two recipes: one cable plus one Mechanical Component at Utility Station 2 for a Zipline, and eight cables plus 1,000 Research Points at Research Station 1 toward the Yank Grenade Blueprint. Destructoid lists three Steel Cable for the Outpost Level 2 upgrade. Check the current in-game recipe and upgrade screens before recycling or discarding the item, because game data can change.
