The Hermit’s Sword is lying at Ambrose’s grave in Apollonia, in the search area north of the hermit’s hut, near the meadow and forest edge. The broken blade is sticking out of the ground at the head of the grave, so you can pick it up without a spade and without disturbing the body.
Where exactly is the grave?
Start at the hermit’s hut in Apollonia and follow the quest’s search area north. The grave sits near the middle of that area, close to where the meadow gives way to forest. The landmark to look for is a pair of distinctively intertwined trees. PowerPyx’s walkthrough, published February 3, 2025, places the grave slightly north of the map’s E objective marker, so if the marker is your guide, look just past it rather than directly on it.

How to collect the sword
- Walk to the grave. Head north from the hermit’s hut into the search area and stay along the meadow and forest edge until you spot the intertwined trees.
- Find the exposed blade. The broken sword protrudes from the earth at the head of the grave. It is visible without digging, and kcd2.org (updated August 30, 2026) and PowerPyx both describe it as Ambrose’s broken sword.
- Take the sword. Interact with it to add it to your inventory. You do not need a spade, and you do not need to dig up the corpse. The guides note that the body has no required loot.
- Return it to Blacksmith Radovan. This completes the step that sends you to Henry, who forges the finished sword.
If you cannot find the location
The quest does not always make the grave obvious, and some players reach the sword without completing every investigation step. If Konrad has not revealed the location to you, look for the Diary of Knight Konrad. It is hidden under sacks on the upper floor of the hermit’s hut. Reading it reveals the grave objective, after which the search area above applies.
Spade tasks are a separate matter
Hermit’s Sword and the other grave-related activities in the quest are easy to confuse. Some grave tasks do call for a spade, but collecting this sword does not. If you are digging, you are doing something different from the objective described here.

Optional investigation steps
The Hermit is a side quest for Blacksmith Radovan, and it can be played as an investigation. The updated kcd2.org guide recommends questioning Innkeeper Betty, Gerda, and Stanislav, examining evidence near the cross, and inspecting the black horse in Apollonia before confronting Konrad. These steps add context and can unlock further quest content. They are not required just to take the sword once you know where it is.
