The seed sample you need for Celeste’s quest The Root of the Matter is in the seed vault on the Research Building in Buried City. Look for the room described as having a “great view.” The community ARC Raiders Wiki places it in the building’s northern section, facing the park, on the floor where the upward and downward ziplines line up. Take the Experimental Seed Sample and hand it to Celeste.
Where the quest fits in Celeste’s chain
The Root of the Matter is part of Celeste’s questline and follows Untended Garden, so finish that quest first. Both the ARC Raiders Wiki’s quest page and the Arc Raiders Kits Celeste quest guide, updated March 31, 2026, list the same objectives and chain order.
Step-by-step: finding the seed vault
- Travel to Buried City and enter the Research Building. The quest objective names this building directly.
- Look for the seed vault in the room described as having a “great view.” This is the clue the quest uses to point you to the right space.
- If you are orienting yourself by the guide, the room sits in the building’s northern section and faces the park. It is on the floor where the upward and downward ziplines align.
- Pick up the Experimental Seed Sample.
- Return to Celeste and deliver the sample to complete the objective.
What you receive
The quest lists two rewards: one Succulent backpack charm and 1,000 coins.
The seed sample in the story
Celeste’s quest dialogue, as reproduced by the ARC Raiders Wiki, explains the item’s background: “When the project went under, it seems she took some of the seed samples and sealed them away in a secure location.” The wiki attributes this line to Celeste; no other named speaker is given.

The building, the “great view” clue, and the delivery target are confirmed by the quest objectives on the ARC Raiders Wiki and by the Arc Raiders Kits guide. The northern, park-facing room and the zipline-floor detail come from the ARC Raiders Wiki’s room-orientation guidance alone. Neither source publishes map coordinates or a screenshot-based route, so if your layout reads differently, trust the “great view” clue and the building name. The quest data reflects the game as of the source dates above. If a later update changes Buried City or this quest’s objectives, the steps may shift.
