Where to Fish for Northern Pike in Red Dead Redemption 2

For an ordinary Northern Pike in Red Dead Redemption 2, try the Dakota River north of Valentine first. Spider Gorge near Colter is another practical river location. Bring a River Lure and fish from a clear bank with room to cast and handle a large fish. The Legendary Northern Pike is a separate, mission-specific catch at O’Creagh’s Run.

Where can you find ordinary Northern Pike?

Start at the Dakota River north of Valentine, a practical first stop for a focused attempt. The Spider Gorge stretch near Colter is another named northern-river target. These are useful places to try, not proven top spots: available guides do not provide measured catch-rate comparisons.

Other documented habitats include Lake Isabella and Cattail Pond in Ambarino, and the Kamassa and Lannahechee rivers in New Hanover. Treat these as additional options rather than guaranteed locations.

What lure and fishing setup do you need?

Use a River Lure for ordinary Northern Pike. The RDR2.org fishing guide and the Red Dead Wiki bait-and-lure reference identify it as the appropriate lure. In story mode, the lure is available from the bait shop at Lagras; availability depends on story progression.

You need a fishing rod. RDR2.org says the rod is guaranteed during the Chapter 2 mission “A Fisher of Men.” From the bank, choose an unobstructed casting position. A snagged line can break, and clear space gives you more room to manage the fight with a large fish.

Is the Legendary Northern Pike in the same place?

No. The Legendary Northern Pike is associated with O’Creagh’s Run in Grizzlies East and is catchable during the stranger mission “The Veteran – II.” The Red Dead Wiki recommends a Special Lake Lure for that legendary target. Do not confuse this mission-specific fish with the ordinary Northern Pike locations above.

Does weather affect Northern Pike?

Published guides disagree: RDR2.org says ordinary Northern Pike are most active in sunny weather, while the Red Dead Wiki describes overcast skies as favorable. Neither source establishes a controlled condition or a guaranteed weather requirement. Choose a practical location and lure rather than treating a particular forecast as essential.
