The game also appeared on Sega’s Astro City Mini V in 2022, which a contemporary report described as its first official home-device release. M2 has announced a separate ShotTriggers edition, but its announcement does not yet identify a platform, launch date, region, price, or sales format. That means the Astro City Mini V is the only specifically documented home route today; the M2 version should be treated as an announced future release rather than a game you can already select on a named console or PC storefront.
At a glance: every documented way to play
| Version or route | What is established | What is not established | Best way to describe it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original arcade release | Eighting’s catalog lists the platform as Arcade and gives a release date of January 1, 1998. | The sources do not verify a currently operating venue, regional launch date, cabinet price, or location. | The original 1998 arcade game. |
| Sega Astro City Mini V | A 2026 report says Armed Police Batrider was included on the Astro City Mini V in 2022 and calls it the first official home-device release. | Current stock, retail listings, supported regions, and present-day pricing were not verified. | The documented physical home-device option; check local availability before buying. |
| M2 ShotTriggers re-release | M2 announced a new edition in October 2026. Reported features include the arcade game, a Super Easy mode, and M2 Gadgets information panels. | No platform, release date, region, price, or physical/digital format was announced in the reporting reviewed. Arranged modes were still in development without finalized details. | An announced future version, not yet a platform-specific recommendation. |
The dates and status above are deliberately narrow. Eighting’s January 1, 1998 entry is a catalog date, not proof of a particular country’s launch day. Likewise, “2022” identifies the Astro City Mini V appearance reported by GenerationAmiga.com; it does not establish that the device is still sold new or supported in every territory.

The original game is an arcade release
Eighting’s official catalog identifies Armed Police Batrider as an arcade title and lists January 1, 1998 as its release date. This is the clearest answer to the question “What platform was the original on?”: it was designed for an arcade cabinet, not initially released as a standard home-console or computer game.
That distinction matters when tracking down a legitimate way to play it. An arcade release does not automatically mean that an original cabinet is available at a nearby venue, that every region received the same board, or that a current arcade operator still has one running. The available information confirms the historical platform, but it does not identify an operating location, rental service, or verified cabinet listing. You should therefore describe an arcade search as a hunt for original hardware or an arcade-equipped venue, not as a guaranteed purchase path.

What the arcade version represents
The arcade game is the reference point for every later edition. Reporting on M2’s project says the new release includes the original arcade mode, so the 1998 version is the baseline against which preservation and added options will be understood. The available sources do not provide a measured comparison of input latency, emulation accuracy, display timing, sound, or video scaling between an original cabinet and any home device. Those technical questions require confirmed specifications or testing and should not be inferred from the game’s release history.
How to discuss the 1998 date
Use “Eighting lists January 1, 1998” when precision is important. Avoid converting that catalog entry into an unqualified worldwide launch date. A catalog can use a standardized date even when regional arcade rollouts occurred at different times; the cited material does not separately verify those regional dates.
Astro City Mini V: the documented home-device release
A 2026 report from GenerationAmiga.com states that Armed Police Batrider appeared on Sega’s Astro City Mini V in 2022 and describes this as the game’s first official release on a home gaming device. For someone who wants a legitimate way to play at home using a specifically identified product, this is the only released home-device route established by the current information.

What that means for a prospective buyer
The Astro City Mini V is a self-contained miniature arcade-style device rather than evidence of a downloadable release on a general-purpose console storefront. The report confirms inclusion, but the available material does not verify whether units are currently in production, which retailers have stock, what a fair current price is, or which regions officially support the product. It also does not establish whether a particular package is new, used, imported, or bundled differently by territory.
Before spending money, check the seller’s region, the exact model name, included software list, power requirements, language information, and return policy. Those checks are practical safeguards, not claims that the device lacks any particular feature. The evidence simply does not support a universal statement about present availability or regional compatibility.
What is and is not known about this version
- Established: inclusion of Armed Police Batrider on Astro City Mini V, reported for 2022.
- Established: the report’s description of it as the first official home-device release.
- Not established: current retail stock, price, supported regions, display performance, input latency, or emulation fidelity.
- Not established: whether every Astro City Mini V regional package contains identical software or documentation.
Do not present an online listing, a second-hand auction, or a retailer’s shipping destination as proof of official regional support. Those are separate questions that require current seller and manufacturer information.

M2’s ShotTriggers edition: announced, but not yet tied to a console
M2 announced a ShotTriggers re-release in October 2026. The announcement was reported on October 10, 2026, but the coverage reviewed did not name a platform or release date. Consequently, it is not accurate to tell readers that the edition is coming to Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC, or any specific storefront. It is also too early to give a confirmed launch window, regional release, price, or physical-versus-digital buying advice.
Features reported for the new edition
The reported feature set is more specific than the distribution details:
- Original arcade mode: the core game is planned as part of the release.
- Super Easy mode: selected enemy and boss attacks are adjusted individually. “Super Easy” should be treated as the announced name and description, not as a guarantee about overall difficulty or a hands-on assessment.
- M2 Gadgets: information panels are planned to expose game information while you play.
- Arranged modes: further modes were described as in development, without finalized details. They should not be listed as guaranteed launch content.
These are announcement features, not independently tested findings. Until M2 publishes final specifications, readers should avoid assuming that the game will offer particular save functions, display options, leaderboards, training tools, controller support, or a specific cabinet-style interface.

How to evaluate it when details arrive
- Confirm the platform first. A named console, handheld, PC store, or dedicated device is the fact that turns the announcement into a practical purchase route.
- Check the date and region. Release timing can differ by territory, and an announcement without a date cannot establish when you can play.
- Separate modes from format. Verify whether the arcade and Super Easy modes ship together, whether arranged modes are ready, and whether M2 Gadgets are included in every edition.
- Look for preservation details. Once published, compare screen orientation, control mapping, display options, sound behavior, and any stated changes with the original arcade design.
- Check the sales format and price. Physical, digital, limited, and region-specific editions can have different availability and costs.
This sequence prevents a common mistake: treating a publisher announcement as if it were already a storefront listing.

Armed Police Batrider is not defined only by its cabinet history. The announcement coverage describes a team-based shoot ’em up with 18 selectable aircraft. Players assemble a combination for a sortie, and the selection button affects each aircraft’s performance and the type of weapon upgrade it receives.

What the 18-aircraft roster tells you
The count is a concrete part of the game’s identity: Gematsu reported 18 selectable aircraft. It does not, by itself, establish that every aircraft is available from the start, that all combinations are equally powerful, or that one team is objectively best. The available reporting supports explaining the roster and team-selection concept, not ranking aircraft or prescribing an optimal route.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.

The selection button is a gameplay choice
Because the selection input influences both performance and weapon-upgrade type, team building is more consequential than simply choosing a visual lineup. A player comparing versions should make sure the control scheme preserves the inputs needed for team selection and weapon management. No source in the current material specifies the exact button labels, controller layout, or whether a home version remaps them, so those details should be checked in the final manual or settings screen for whichever edition you use.
Which route fits which player?
You want the historical original
Look for an operating arcade cabinet or an established arcade collection that explicitly lists the game. The documented evidence confirms the arcade platform, but not a current venue. Ask the operator whether the machine is original hardware, a home device connected to a cabinet, or another implementation; those are different experiences even when the title is the same.
You want a released home product now
The Astro City Mini V is the relevant documented option. Confirm the exact product, region, stock status, and seller terms before ordering because current availability was not verified. Do not assume that a listing in one country guarantees official support or identical contents elsewhere.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou want M2’s additional tools
Wait for platform and date information from M2 or a current retailer listing tied to an official announcement. The announced Super Easy mode and M2 Gadgets panels may make this edition attractive to players who want more information or a gentler entry point, but those features do not make the release currently playable on a named system.
You are comparing versions for competitive or technical reasons
There is not enough published evidence here to declare a winner on latency, frame pacing, sound accuracy, scoring behavior, or display quality. Compare those points only after the relevant edition’s specifications or reproducible tests are available. The existing material supports a platform-and-feature comparison, not a performance verdict.
Common traps when searching for the game
- Confusing an announcement with availability: M2’s 2026 announcement has no confirmed platform or date in the reported information.
- Assuming a console port exists: no current source identifies a Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, or PC version.
- Using the catalog date as a regional launch date: January 1, 1998 is Eighting’s catalog entry.
- Assuming Astro City Mini V stock: the 2022 inclusion is documented, but live listings and prices were not checked.
- Promoting unfinished content as final: arranged modes were reported as in development, not as finalized launch features.
- Claiming tested quality: no hands-on latency, emulation, or feature-quality tests are established by the available material.
What remains unresolved
Several facts will determine the practical value of the M2 edition but remain open: supported platforms, release date, territories, price, physical or digital format, final arranged-mode list, and the exact scope of M2 Gadgets. The Astro City Mini V route likewise needs a current check for stock, regional support, and pricing. Until those details are published, the safest description is simple: the arcade original is historically documented, Astro City Mini V is the documented 2022 home-device release, and M2’s ShotTriggers version is announced but not yet a specified console or storefront product.
