For a first playthrough, start with Kingdom Hearts and follow the early-series entries through HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, then play HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts III and its Re Mind expansion. Melody of Memory is a later rhythm-game entry for those who want to continue beyond III. This is a practical route, not an official mandatory order for every spin-off.
Recommended Kingdom Hearts order for a first playthrough
- Begin with Kingdom Hearts. The first game is the clearest starting point for the series’ story.
- Continue through the early entries in HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX. It gathers six early-series stories, though two are presented as cinematics rather than playable games in the The Story So Far listing.
- Play HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. It adds Dream Drop Distance HD, 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage–, and the χ Back Cover movie.
- Play Kingdom Hearts III, then Re Mind. Square Enix’s Switch announcement lists them together as a cloud version; check the edition available for your platform.
- Try Melody of Memory if you want to continue. It is a later rhythm-game entry, rather than the next numbered action-RPG.
The sequence above is an editorial recommendation based on the collections’ contents and release descriptions. Square Enix does not establish it as a required order in the cited collection listings.

Which collection should you choose?
| Option | What it includes | Platform or format established by the cited listing | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX | Six early-series stories; the Square Enix collection page describes the set as the first six stories. | Not stated on the cited collection page. | Players looking for the central early-series collection. |
| The Story So Far | HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX plus HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. | PS4, according to the Square Enix Store listing. | PS4 players who want the early collection and HD 2.8 together. |
| Integrum Masterpiece for Cloud | Square Enix announced this as an all-in-one collection; the cited announcement does not enumerate its contents in the same detail as the individual collection listings. | Nintendo Switch cloud release, according to Square Enix’s 2022 announcement. | Switch players willing to use cloud versions; verify current service and regional availability. |
Choose first by platform, then by whether you want a physical or cloud edition, whether you need playable games or are happy to watch remastered cinematics, and whether you want HD 2.8 included. A collection’s title alone does not tell you which entries are games and which are movies.
