To unlock all six FFXIV Alliance Raid series, start the separate quest chain for each one. The first quest and NPC for every series are listed below; complete each chain in order to open its raids. The latest series, Echoes of Vana’diel, currently reaches Windurst: The Third Walk in Patch 7.5.
Alliance Raid unlocks at a glance
Alliance Raids are 24-player duties. Each expansion-era series has its own questline, and later raids in that series require progressing through its story. The Lodestone Eorzea Database lists these six quest categories: The Crystal Tower, The Shadow of Mhach, Return to Ivalice, YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse, Myths of the Realm, and Echoes of Vana’diel.
| Series | Level band | First quest and starting NPC | First raid |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Crystal Tower | 50 | “Legacy of Allag” — Outlandish Man, Mor Dhona (X:21.8, Y:8.1) | Labyrinth of the Ancients |
| The Shadow of Mhach | 60 | “Sky Pirates” — Unquiet Trader, Foundation, The Pillars (X:14.1, Y:10.7) | The Void Ark |
| Return to Ivalice | 70 | “Dramatis Personae” — Keiten, Kugane (X:12.2, Y:12.3) | The Royal City of Rabanastre |

Level bands and unlock sequences are from the quest-by-quest Alliance Raid unlock index. Echoes of Vana’diel’s first unlock is also described in the official Patch 7.1 notes.
How to find and progress each questline
The Crystal Tower
Speak to the Outlandish Man in Mor Dhona (X:21.8, Y:8.1) and accept “Legacy of Allag.” Follow the quests involving Rammbroes: “Labyrinth of the Ancients” opens the first raid, followed by “Syrcus Tower” and “The World of Darkness.” This series is required for main scenario progression.

If you still have the older version of “Legacy of Allag” in your journal, abandon and accept it again to receive the updated version. See the official Crystal Tower unlock update.
The Shadow of Mhach
Start “Sky Pirates” with the Unquiet Trader in Foundation, in The Pillars (X:14.1, Y:10.7). Continue the story as it moves through the Sea of Clouds and The Parrock. The raid gates are “To Rule the Skies” for The Void Ark, “The Weeping City” for The Weeping City of Mhach, and “Where Shadows Reign” for Dun Scaith. After each duty, use the next quest in your journal to find the following NPC.

Return to Ivalice
Accept “Dramatis Personae” from Keiten in Kugane (X:12.2, Y:12.3). Progress through the story, which takes you to the Prima Vista and later back to Kugane. The three raid quests open The Royal City of Rabanastre (“A City Fallen”), The Ridorana Lighthouse (“Annihilation”), and The Orbonne Monastery (“The City of Lost Angels”).
YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse
Begin “Word about Komra” with the Gossipy Dwarf in Kholusia (X:12.9, Y:8.7). This is a longer chain, with later steps taking you around Komra, the Excavation Tunnels, and the raid areas. Follow the quest journal from one step to the next; optional follow-up quests are not necessarily prerequisites for the next duty. The unlock index lists the intermediate quest sequence.

Myths of the Realm

Echoes of Vana’diel
To unlock Jeuno: The First Walk, reach level 100 and complete the Dawntrail main scenario. Then accept “An Otherworldly Encounter” from the Hoobigo Messenger in Tuliyollal (X:13.0, Y:11.6). Later duties depend on prior progression through the series; the Echoes of Vana’diel guide overview covers that progression.

- Release date is tentative, updates will be posted on the page
As of Patch 7.5, the series includes Windurst: The Third Walk. The official Patch 7.5 notes state that “The Hollow Promise” requires completion of “Apocalypse Nigh.” For later quest names and locations not specified in those notes, use the in-game journal rather than relying on an assumed NPC location.
Quick Recap
What to do if the starter quest is missing
- Check that your character meets the series’ level requirement and, for Echoes of Vana’diel, has completed the Dawntrail main scenario.
- Look for an earlier quest from the same series in your journal; later raid unlocks are sequential, not separate starter quests.
- For Crystal Tower, check whether you have the outdated “Legacy of Allag” version. Abandoning and accepting it again updates the quest requirement.
- If an NPC or quest name differs from these details, check the journal and current Lodestone entry. Patch notes and in-game quest text can change as the game receives updates.
