Unlock steps
- Level a qualifying job to 80. Any Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic job counts. Limited jobs do not qualify. The Lodestone Eorzea Database lists the requirement as “Any Disciple of War or Magic (excluding limited jobs) Lv. 80.”
- Travel to Old Gridania. Open the map and set the location to Old Gridania.
- Find the Cheerless Hearer at X:8.0 Y:10.3. Use the map coordinates to locate the NPC who offers the quest.
- Accept “The Joy of Pictomancy.” Completing this quest unlocks the Pictomancer job.
Requirements and what is not required
- Class requirement: one Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic job at level 80.
- Excluded: limited jobs.
- Main scenario: the quest record lists no main scenario quest as a prerequisite, so you do not need to finish the Dawntrail main story before starting the unlock.
After unlocking: the Pictomancer quest line
Pictomancer is a magical ranged DPS job that starts at level 80. The Lodestone lists six Pictomancer job quests, spread across the following levels:
| Quest level | Number of Pictomancer quests at this level |
|---|---|
| 80 | Listed in the official job-quest record |
| 83 | Listed in the official job-quest record |
| 85 | Listed in the official job-quest record |
| 88 | Listed in the official job-quest record |
| 90 | Listed in the official job-quest record |
The official listing contains six quests across these five levels, so one level has two quests. The record does not break down which level holds which quest, so check the Pictomancer Quests page in the Eorzea Database for the exact order.
Source notes
- The Patch 7.0 notes from SQUARE ENIX and the Final Fantasy XIV Lodestone identify the level 80 unlock quest and its location, and describe Pictomancer’s role and starting level.
- The Lodestone Eorzea Database entry for “The Joy of Pictomancy” gives the current requirements, quest giver location, and rewards. That page is shown as Patch 7.56.
- The Lodestone Eorzea Database Pictomancer Quests listing, also shown as Patch 7.56, gives the job-quest sequence.
Coordinates and quest details can change with patches. If the NPC location or quest name does not match what you see in-game, check the current Eorzea Database entry for “The Joy of Pictomancy.”
