Weapons and armor are repaired, and most upgrades are bought, from technicians based at hubs across the Zone. Each technician is an NPC with a dedicated workshop, and the game marks them on the map with a technician symbol. Once you reach one, the repair and upgrade options sit inside a dialogue menu rather than a separate shop screen.
How repair and upgrades work
Official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 support describes the technician as the game’s equipment repairman, and the same article explains the basic flow: talk to the technician, open the upgrade menu, and work on the item you want to change. Hover over an upgrade icon to see what it does and whether it is available to you.

- Find the technician symbol on the game map at a hub.
- Walk to the technician and start a dialogue.
- Open the upgrade menu from the dialogue options.
- Select the damaged item and use the repair button to restore it.
- Hover over the upgrade icons to check which upgrades are on offer, then select one to install it.
Some upgrades are available from the start. Others require a blueprint that you must find somewhere in the Zone before the technician can install them. Official support confirms the blueprint requirement but does not list every blueprint location, so check your inventory and loot notes when an upgrade stays locked.
Some technicians also offer discounts after you complete their quests, according to official support. The article does not state a discount amount, so expect the price difference to vary by technician and by save.

Technician locations in the base game
The table below uses the ten named technicians and hubs from a location guide last updated December 11, 2024. It describes the base game only. Later updates and DLC add content, and the guide does not claim to be a complete list for the current version of the game.
| Technician | Hub | Region | Where to find them in the hub |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lens | Zalissya | Lesser Zone | Works from a garage in the northeast of Zalissya |
| Diode | Slag Heap | Garbage | Workshop down the corridor to the right of Boozer the Trader |
| Multitool | Rookie Village | Cordon | In a house in southwest Rookie Village, behind Wolf the Guide |
| Khors | Shelter | Wild Island | In a room to the left of Shelter’s mess hall |
| Picker | Sultansk | Zaton | Upper floor at the western end of Sultansk’s ship |
| Sgt. Ivaylov | Chemical Plant | Chemical Plant | Location inside the base not stated beyond the hub; access can depend on story progression and faction choice |
| Sgt. Khmaruk | Cement Factory | Cement Factory | Second floor of a central building in the Cement Factory |
| Screw | Rostok | Rostok | Rostok’s main building |
| Harpy | Yaniv Station | Yaniv | Beside the stash and bed at Yaniv Station |
| Semyonych | STC Malachite | Malachite | Workshop in STC Malachite’s main hall |
Directions come from the December 2024 location guide. If a building layout has changed in a later update, use the technician symbol on the map rather than the wording above.

When a technician cannot install an upgrade
If the game says a technician cannot install an upgrade, try a different technician before assuming the upgrade is unavailable. The location guide reports that early technicians, including those at Zalissya and Slag Heap, cannot install every upgrade. Use this checklist to work out why:
- Check whether the upgrade needs a blueprint you have not yet found.
- Visit another technician. Their available upgrades differ.
- Check whether the hub you need is accessible yet, since story progression and faction choice can block some services.
- Check whether a technician’s quest is still open, since some discounts depend on completing it.
Official support confirms that upgrades differ between technicians and that some require blueprints. The sources do not establish that any single named technician can install every upgrade in every version or save, so treat the list above as the way to diagnose a gap, not a guarantee.

Using the map to find every technician
LootMap’s service map, updated August 25, 2026 and labeled for game build 24914692, shows 23 technician markers. The map lets you combine technician, trader, guide, hub, medical, and bed layers when you plan a route. It also notes that the state of your save determines whether a marked service is actually available.
The 23-marker count is a count of map pins, not a verified list of 23 separate technicians open in every save. Use the marker to find the technician nearest your route, then confirm in the upgrade menu what that technician currently offers.
Planning a route
- Plan around the technician that has the upgrade you want, not the one nearest your current position.
- Keep blueprint searches in mind when you explore, since some upgrades only appear after you find the matching blueprint.
- Note hub access restrictions tied to story progression or faction before travelling.
Official Update 2.0 announcement confirms that later game changes arrived with that update, but it does not list added technicians, so check the map for any technician pins that were not in the original guide.
The official support article titled NPC Interactions, published November 14, 2024, is the best reference for menu behavior. Its line that “A technician is your equipment repairman” sums up the role for the purposes of this guide.
