The original Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense was a limited-quantity 2024 release, and current stock and prices are not confirmed here. Check your local PlayStation Direct store and authorized retailers, then verify the exact edition before buying: Sony also sells a separately named ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition.
Where to check for the original controller
Sony’s July 29, 2024 announcement named PlayStation Direct and selected retailers as preorder channels for the original controller. Which retailers participated depended on the market. Those launch channels are useful places to check, but the announcement does not establish current inventory.
- PlayStation Direct: Check the local store for your country. A past preorder listing does not mean the controller is currently available.
- Authorized retailers: Look at major retailers in your region and confirm the seller is the retailer itself, not an unrelated marketplace seller.
- Marketplace listings: Treat each as a separate resale offer. Check seller history, condition, return terms, shipping, and total checkout cost; the sources do not establish a current resale benchmark.
A September 2025 GamesRadar report listed Amazon, PlayStation Direct, Walmart, and GameStop as retailer leads for the later Joyful edition in the US. That dated list is not confirmation of present stock or of the original controller’s availability.
Make sure the listing is for the original edition
Sony’s original model is named “DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition.” Its design, inspired by Astro’s Dual Speeder, has blue accents on the handles and buttons, sci-fi lines, and Astro’s eyes on the touchpad. Sony’s current DualSense page separately names “ASTRO BOT™ Joyful Limited Edition.” It is a different edition, not evidence that the 2024 original is in stock. If you want the original specifically, do not rely on a general “Astro Bot DualSense” search result: check the full product name and touchpad design before ordering.
Launch timing and historical prices
Sony planned preorders for August 9, 2024, with the original controller launching September 6, 2024, in limited quantities. In the US, preorders were scheduled for 7 a.m. Pacific Time; in the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Portugal, they were scheduled for 10 a.m. local time. Sony also directed buyers in other markets to selected local retailers.

Sony’s announcement also highlights its haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and motion controls in ASTRO BOT. The game is sold separately; Sony’s PlayStation Store listing identifies ASTRO BOT as a PS5 game released September 6, 2024.
