No new massive expansion is launching this week. Hidden Mountain, the large mountain region Where Winds Meet previewed in June 2026, is already in the game. The developer’s September 19, 2026 letter says the Version 2.2 launch brings the Hidden Mountain main story to its finale. What is scheduled for this week is a separate Version 2.2 update listed for October 11, and the official listing does not yet describe its contents.
What has already launched
The September 19, 2026 developer letter confirms that the Version 2.2 launch completed the Hidden Mountain main story. It covers the following story beats:

- Refugees on Mohist Hill. Refugees arrive on Mohist Hill, and Grandmaster Swallow faces a set of choices about how to respond.
- The return of Qianye. The letter names the character’s return as part of the story’s conclusion.
- A campaign in Skyward City Ruins. The campaign is against Halcyon.
- Two world bosses. Goshawk and Golden Colossus Taicu are the named world bosses in the Version 2.2 content.
Hidden Mountain itself was first presented in Xbox Wire’s June 9, 2026 preview, which described it as an upcoming major expansion. The preview quoted Eric Zheng, Head of Where Winds Meet Publishing: “This massive new region introduces a breathtaking mountainous landscape built with deep, multi-layered 3D verticality.” That quote describes the region as previewed in June. It does not indicate a launch date in October.
What the October 11 Version 2.2 update is
The official site lists a page titled “[Perilous Eminence] Version 2.2 Update Overview – October 11”, dated October 6, 2026. The title and date are confirmed. The text of the page, which would describe the update’s contents, was not readable in the sources reviewed.

That means the October 11 item should be read as a scheduled Version 2.2 update, not a new expansion. No new story, map, boss, reward, or feature should be attributed to it until the official page or in-game patch notes list them. The date can change, so confirm it on the official site before planning around it.
Is the content free?
Xbox Wire’s June 9, 2026 announcement describes Where Winds Meet as a free-to-play wuxia open-world action RPG. That describes the base game’s access model.

Free expansion content has precedent in this game. On February 27, 2026, NetEase announced Hexi as a free expansion for PC, PlayStation, and mobile. It is delivered in three chapters, with three major maps and nearly 20 sub-regions. Hexi is a separate earlier release and is not the October 11 update.
The sources reviewed do not state whether Hidden Mountain or the October 11 update is free. Do not assume either is free on the basis of the game’s free-to-play model or Hexi’s pricing.

Platforms and player count
Xbox Wire’s June 9, 2026 announcement confirms Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC availability, cloud availability, and Xbox Play Anywhere support.
The same article reports “over 80 million players worldwide.” That figure is dated to June 2026 and is the publisher’s reported number at that time. It should not be read as a current player count for October 2026.
