Where Winds Meet is a free-to-play open-world wuxia action RPG built around a substantial solo adventure, with optional co-op and competitive play. Its monetization includes paid fashion and lottery activities, but the available official information does not disclose current draw odds, pity thresholds, or banner costs. That makes the game’s broad model clear, while leaving its most important gacha details unverified.
What kind of game is Where Winds Meet?
NetEase describes Where Winds Meet as an open-world wuxia action-adventure RPG set in tenth-century China during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. You play a young sword master exploring a world of martial arts, mystic abilities, and competing interests. Steam also lists activities beyond combat, including crafting, architecture, astronomy, folk games, performance, medicine, and healing. These descriptions come from the publisher and platform listings, rather than an independent assessment of the world’s scale or variety.
The game launched globally on November 14, 2025, according to NetEase’s launch announcement and its Steam listing. At launch, NetEase advertised more than 20 regions and over 40 Martial Mystic Arts; those are publisher-reported counts from 2025, not a current independent inventory. PlayStation’s page advertises over 150 hours of solo gameplay, likewise a marketed content claim rather than a measured completion time.
Is Where Winds Meet free to play, and can you enjoy it without spending?
Yes. The official Where Winds Meet FAQ hosted by Epic Games Store says, “Even without payment, you can experience all the gameplay and activities in the game, and there are rich welfare contents to claim.” That establishes the publisher’s stated access policy; it does not independently prove that the free and paid experiences feel equally rewarding, or that the monetization is fair in practice.
Steam describes gameplay content as free and monetization as limited to cosmetics. PlayStation’s FAQ also says purchases do not affect abilities or skills. These are platform and publisher representations of the game’s model, not an independent audit of balance or value.
How do the gacha and other purchases work?
There is confirmed lottery-style monetization, but not enough published detail here to assess its exact economics. The official FAQ says, “You can also buy the Echo Bead to purchase fashion items and participate in lottery activities.” PlayStation labels in-game purchases as including random items and lists an optional battle pass, paid cosmetics, and a monthly subscription.
The sources establish that Echo Bead can be used for fashion and lottery activities, but they do not establish current draw odds, pity or guarantee rules, banner-by-banner costs, regional currency prices, or whether every lottery reward is cosmetic. So “gacha mechanics” is a fair reason to investigate the game’s shop, not a basis for claiming a particular drop rate, guarantee, or pay-to-win outcome.
NetEase’s launch announcement promised that the free-to-play game would have “no pay-to-win mechanics.” PlayStation’s FAQ says the optional paid content will not affect a player’s abilities or skills. Those statements describe the publisher’s intended model; they are not independent verification of spending value or the effects of every live-service change.

Can Where Winds Meet be played solo or with friends?
It is not multiplayer-only. PlayStation says the main campaign can be played solo or with up to four friends, while certain levels are designed specifically for multiplayer exploration. NetEase and Steam also describe co-op and PvP. Xbox Wire has reported guild activities and a shared world. Exact modes and live-service content can change, so check the current in-game or platform listing for what is available in your region.

Official listings describe availability across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and mobile. The FAQ lists Steam, PlayStation, Epic Games Store, and the official launcher; Xbox Wire reported availability on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and cloud in June 2026. The game supports cross-play and cross-progression, but continuing an existing character depends on linking the right accounts.
Link accounts before creating or opening a new character
The mobile FAQ, dated December 9, 2025, says character data, progress, and purchases can carry between mobile and PC. It warns that two accounts that already have character data cannot be linked; its guidance is to link before creating a mobile character, or sign in with the account that already has the character. The Xbox FAQ, dated June 8, 2026, similarly says the same bound account shares character data across Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and mobile, and recommends linking an existing account before first logging in on Xbox.
Xbox storage figures are platform-specific
The official Xbox FAQ dated June 8, 2026 lists 169.2 GB for Xbox Series X, 125.5 GB for Xbox Series S, and 156.6 GB for Xbox on PC. It recommends keeping 150–200 GB free depending on the device. These are Xbox-specific figures and should not be applied to PS5, Steam, or mobile.

- For a free-to-play game: the official FAQ says gameplay and activities are accessible without payment. That is useful to know, but does not settle whether optional purchases feel worthwhile.
- For a gacha-sensitive player: lottery activities are confirmed, while current odds, guarantees, and detailed prices are not established by the cited official sources. Review the live purchase and event details in-game before spending.
- For cross-platform play: cross-progression is available, but account linking can affect whether an existing character carries over. Bind the account you intend to use before starting on another platform.
