As of October 8, 2026, Ubisoft’s reviewed official offer pages do not list an Assassin’s Creed game as free. The US Store’s current free-offer catalog features other games, and Ubisoft’s UK homepage shows Assassin’s Creed editions with prices. Free promotions can vary by country and platform, so check your local store before downloading or buying.
What counts as “free”?
A game listed at a discount is still paid. Access through a subscription is not a free-to-keep offer, and a timed trial or free-play weekend ends on a set date. Those distinctions matter because several recent Assassin’s Creed promotions have expired.
- Free to keep: You claim the game during an active offer and retain it under the offer’s terms. Ubisoft’s US free-offer catalog is titled “Currently active Free Offer” and displayed 53 results when checked; its visible free-access items included Rainbow Six Siege and Trackmania, not Assassin’s Creed.
- Timed free play: You can play during an event window, but access may end afterward unless you purchase the game. Ubisoft’s Xbox free-weekend page now says “The Free Weekend Has Ended.”
- Subscription access: A game included with a paid subscription is available to subscribers, not free without conditions. Ubisoft’s March 2026 Unity announcement said Ubisoft+ subscribers could play Unity.
- Discount: A sale lowers the purchase price but does not make the game free.
Recent Assassin’s Creed free-play events are over
Xbox event: April 2–6, 2026
Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed Unity, Syndicate, Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, and part of Mirage would be available to play free on Xbox from April 2 through April 6, 2026. That event has ended. Ubisoft’s announcement also described progress carrying over if a player bought the game afterward.
Xbox Free Play Days: October 1–5, 2026
Ubisoft’s October 2026 sale article said Xbox Free Play Days ran October 1–5 and included Assassin’s Creed Odyssey alongside four other games. This promotion had also ended by October 8.

Where to check before downloading
- Open the store for your region and platform. Check the console or PC storefront where you would actually play; availability and event dates can differ by country and platform.
- Look for the offer type and end date. Confirm whether the listing is free to keep, a timed trial, a subscription benefit, or a sale. Do not treat a reduced price as a free offer.
- Read the eligibility terms. Check whether a subscription is required, which game edition or content is included, and the exact dates you can play.
- Check what happens to progress. Some timed events let you continue from your saved progress if you purchase afterward; verify that condition on the specific offer page.
Ubisoft’s UK homepage and storefront currently show priced Assassin’s Creed editions, while the US free-offer catalog is a separate regional snapshot. Amazon Luna is not a current free-access route for Assassin’s Creed Unity: its listing says the game left Luna on June 10, 2026.
