You get the Shiny Charm from the Game Director in Hotel Ionia in Circhester, after you have registered all 400 Pokémon in the Galar Pokédex. You do not need to finish the main story first.
What you need before you go
The only requirement is the Galar Pokédex. Smogon University’s in-game guide describes it as having all 400 Pokémon registered, and it does not spell out how registration is achieved, so check the Pokédex screen to confirm your count before you travel. The guide states that the Charm does not require completing the main story. Smogon University, “SS In-Game Tips and Tricks”
Step-by-step route
- Confirm that all 400 entries in the Galar Pokédex are registered.
- Travel to Circhester and enter Hotel Ionia, the hotel on the western side of town. Serebii.net, “Circhester – Galar – Pokéarth” and Nintendo Wire, “Guide: Shiny Pokémon Hunting in Pokémon Sword and Shield” both place the Game Director in this building.
- Take the elevator to the upper floor.
- Find the Game Director and speak to him. Once your Pokédex is complete, he gives you the Shiny Charm.
Finding the right room
Guides do not agree on the room number. Serebii lists the Game Director in Room 1 of the western hotel, while Smogon describes the route as the second room. Rather than relying on a room number, treat the Game Director himself as your checkpoint: go to the upper floor of the western Hotel Ionia and look for him there.
What the Charm changes
The Shiny Charm raises shiny odds for wild encounters and for eggs bred with the Masuda Method. Smogon’s guide gives the following game-mechanics odds. It does not state a publication date, so treat these as the figures the guide reports rather than dated real-world statistics.

These odds apply per encounter or per egg. The Charm improves your chances, but it does not guarantee a shiny on any individual attempt.
