Two Battlefield games have evidence of offline matches against AI bots: Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. The Battlefield 1942 PC manual documents single-player play with AI-controlled bots, which makes it the strongest source of the two. For Battlefield 2, the evidence is an EA support forum answer rather than a manual, and it says the game can still be played offline against bots even though its online services have been shut down.
The newer titles do not give the same answer. Battlefield 2042’s Solo mode against AI soldiers is run in an online setting, and Battlefield 6 has a campaign for solo players and multiplayer modes that include bots. Neither of those newer titles has an official source confirming offline bot matches.
Quick answer by game
| Game | Platform stated in the cited source | What the source says | Offline bot match? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battlefield 1942 | PC | The PC manual describes single-player campaign play and AI-controlled bots. | Yes, documented in the official manual |
| Battlefield 2 | PC | An EA support forum answer says the game can be played offline against bots after online services were shut down. | Yes, per EA forum support (not a manual-confirmed feature) |
| Battlefield 2042 | Not stated in the cited source | Solo play against AI soldiers takes place in an online setting. | No |
| Battlefield 6 | Not stated in the cited source | The campaign is the recommended option for a true solo player, and Initiation Multiplayer teams are partly filled with bots. | Not established by the official sources reviewed |
Battlefield 1942: the best-documented offline option
The Battlefield 1942 PC manual from Electronic Arts covers single-player campaign play and explains that bots are AI-controlled, with their AI skill determining how well they fight. That combination of a single-player campaign and bot opponents is the clearest official evidence that the game supports offline play against AI.
Because the manual describes the game as released, it tells you what the PC version was designed to do. It does not tell you how the game behaves on current hardware or operating systems; see the final section for that.

Battlefield 2: forum support, not a manual
The evidence for Battlefield 2 comes from an EA Forums support response in a thread about login issues. The answer states that the game can be played offline against bots even though its online services have been shut down.
That is a meaningful difference in evidence weight. A manual is a designed-for-release document; a forum reply is an individual support answer. Treat the Battlefield 2 claim as EA support’s statement, and do not read it as a feature confirmed in an official manual or current game guide. It also does not mean online services are still available.
Battlefield 2042: Solo against AI is online-only
Battlefield 2042 is the most common source of confusion, because it has a Solo mode that pits you against AI soldiers. EA’s Battlefield 2042 reveal Q&A addresses this directly:
Rank #2
“Battlefield 2042 is a multiplayer-only experience. So while you can play Solo against AI Soldiers if you’d like to practice, it will be in an online setting.”

The same Q&A answers the question many readers ask when they see AI soldiers in Solo mode: whether they can play offline. The answer, based on that statement, is no. The Solo mode is an online experience against AI, so it is not an offline bot match.
Battlefield 6: a solo campaign and bot-filled multiplayer
Battlefield 6 contains two things that are easy to mix up with offline bot play. The first is its single-player campaign. EA’s New Player Guide to Battlefield 6 recommends the campaign for a true solo player.
Rank #3
The second is multiplayer with bots. The same guide describes Initiation Multiplayer teams as partly filled with bots. Those bots are part of a multiplayer mode, so they do not answer the offline question. The official sources reviewed do not establish offline bot matches for Battlefield 6. For general questions about the game’s solo options, EA’s Battlefield 6 FAQ is the official reference.

When a Battlefield mode seems to offer play against AI, check these points before assuming it works offline:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Look at the label. A mode described as multiplayer with bots, or as Solo in an online setting, is not an offline match.
- Look for an official manual that describes single-player play with AI bots. That is the strongest evidence, and Battlefield 1942 is the only title in this comparison where it was found.
- Treat a forum or support reply as a statement from that support answer, not as an official feature list.
- Do not count a campaign as an offline bot match unless the official description says its enemies are AI-controlled bots in an offline match.
Running and buying the older PC titles
Knowing that Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 support offline bot play does not establish that they are easy to buy or run today. The sources reviewed did not confirm current store availability, seller reliability, or compatibility with modern operating systems for either title.
Quick Recap
- Check current store listings before purchasing, and confirm which edition is being sold.
- Compare the listed system requirements with your hardware and operating system.
- For Battlefield 2, confirm the offline-bot behavior in your own installation before relying on it, since the only source is a forum support answer.
