Short answer: no documented BG3 console command is confirmed safe for use on a live campaign save. Larian’s published command list is for the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit editor, not a general in-game cheat console. For campaign experimentation, use a disposable test save and keep an untouched backup; treat every change as experimental.
Which BG3 console commands are actually documented?
Larian’s Toolkit shortcut documentation identifies Ctrl+Shift+F11 as the shortcut for opening the editor’s “Debug Console Commands.” This is an editor console, not evidence that the same commands are available in an ordinary campaign.
The documented examples include commands that can change characters, items, combat, or story state. Their inclusion in the Toolkit documentation does not establish that they work in a player save, preserve campaign integrity, or can be safely reversed.
- Navigation and selection:
goto,pos,Select,SelectByUUID,SelectPlayer. - Items and creation:
give,givetreasure,spawnItem,create %item% %amount%. - Character and build testing:
addDebugSpell,addDebugSpellAsClass,levelup,ccStartNew,ccStartRespec,god,roll %value%. - Combat and state:
killCombat,peace,endTurnCombat,statusApply,statusRemove,applyPassive,removePassive. - Reloading and debugging:
reloadStats,reloadStory,dumpOsirisState,reloadUI,reloadLoca,shroud.
For example, a command that changes a level, inventory, stats, story state, or combat state should be considered a test operation—not a harmless convenience—unless you are working in an editor project or a disposable copy.

Which route should you use?
| Route | Best fit | Support and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Toolkit editor debug console | Testing a mod or build inside the Toolkit editor | Documented by Larian for the editor; documentation does not promise safety on campaign saves. Larian Toolkit documentation |
| Script Extender console | Third-party debugging or experimentation in a supported PC/Linux setup | Third-party tool; compatibility depends on the game build. The community installation guide reports Windows and Linux/Steam Deck support, with no official Mac or console support. Norbyte’s repository; community installation guide |
Use the Toolkit when you are testing in the editor. Script Extender is a separate, third-party route for supported systems; it is not an official Larian console. Check the maintainer’s current release information against your game build before relying on it, because compatibility can change after updates.
How to experiment without risking your main campaign
No official per-command safety matrix establishes which commands are reversible, achievement-safe, or harmless to a live save. A cautious workflow is therefore more reliable than trying to label individual commands “safe.”

- Keep an untouched save. Back up your campaign before adding mods or running tools, and do not overwrite that copy during testing.
- Use a disposable test campaign or copied save. A separate environment makes it easier to abandon an experiment if it changes story, inventory, levels, stats, or combat in an unexpected way.
- Change one thing at a time. Record what you changed and verify the result before trying another command or mod. This helps identify which change caused a problem.
- Test the outcome before returning to your main playthrough. Do not assume a modified save can be cleanly restored by undoing a command; return to the untouched backup if the result is uncertain.
What happens to achievements and cross-platform saves?
Larian’s Community Update #29 states: “Achievements are automatically disabled when you’re using mods, so keep this in mind if you’re still planning on completing your Baldur’s Gate 3 achievements!” The same update warns that mods can conflict and that using PC mods unavailable on console can cause cross-save problems. See Larian’s Community Update #29.
Norbyte’s Script Extender documentation describes DeveloperMode as enabling debugging functionality and lists an EnableAchievements setting for modded games. That is third-party tool behavior, not a Larian guarantee or an endorsement; Larian’s stated guidance remains that achievements are disabled when mods are in use. If achievements matter, keep an unmodded run separate and do not assume a Script Extender setting changes Larian’s policy. See the Script Extender repository.

Mod compatibility also depends on platform and mode. Larian’s Patch 8 guidance sets a 100-mod limit for console players in the specified cross-play context and requires console- and Mac-compatible mods when joining a PC host. These conditions apply to that cross-play setup, not automatically to every local modded save. See Larian’s Patch 8 guidance.
