If you want a harsh, survival-focused dinosaur game where hunting, eating, drinking and staying alive are the main pressure, The Isle is the closer match. If you want a game with explicit quests, visible growth goals, controller support and a wider list of officially named platforms, Path of Titans is the better fit. The rest of this article explains where that split comes from and what to check before you buy either one.
This is a preference-based recommendation drawn from the developers’ and Steam’s published descriptions, not an objective ranking and not a result of hands-on play. Both games are still in development, so features, server rules and platform availability can change.
Is Path of Titans like The Isle?
Both are multiplayer games built around playing a dinosaur and surviving in a shared world, which is why readers often ask whether one is simply a version of the other. They are close in genre but differ in tone, progression design and how they are sold to players. The differences are easiest to see by comparing what each developer says the game is for.
What The Isle is built around
Steam describes The Isle as a gritty, open-world survival horror game. The store listing states: “The Isle is intended to be a gritty, open-world survival horror game.” Its description frames survival as the central goal and presents a multiplayer loop of surviving, hunting, growing and avoiding danger.

Survival characters advance through life stages, and eating, drinking, hunting and growth are described as core systems. That makes the day-to-day experience about meeting physical needs and avoiding threats more than completing assigned objectives. The game is labelled Early Access on Steam, which means the store page reflects a build that is still being developed.
Development is active
Steam’s community page showed DevBlog #73, dated September 30, 2026, covering work on the Oviraptor and Baryonyx, migration rules, the Gateway system and audio. That confirms ongoing development. The older Early Access description lists planned features, but it should not be read as a current roadmap, so check the latest DevBlog before assuming a feature is coming or has already arrived.

What Path of Titans is built around
Alderon Games describes Path of Titans as an MMO dinosaur game, stating in its Development FAQ: “Path of Titans is an MMO dinosaur video game being developed for PC, mobile devices and consoles.” Alderon says the game is in active development and pre-release, and names Panjura and Gondwa as its two large open-world maps.
Its Gameplay FAQ describes quests as the main way to earn Marks, which unlock abilities and skins and help a character grow toward adulthood. According to that FAQ, Marks cannot be bought with real money. Alderon also says each playable creature gets its own gameplay style through its abilities. The result is a game that gives players a clearer sequence of goals than The Isle’s life-stage survival loop.

Survival pressure and death rules
The Isle’s positioning puts survival pressure at the centre of the design, which is the main reason it suits players who want tension. Path of Titans is more forgiving on paper. Alderon states that permadeath is not enabled on its official servers, but community servers may turn it on, so the rules you face depend on which server you join.
Because of that, the fair way to compare death penalties is by server, not by game title. Before you commit to either game, read the server rules on the specific server you plan to play on, and check the current game update notes for any changes to survival mechanics.

Progression and what you do each session
In The Isle, progression is tied to survival stages and physical needs. Your character grows through life stages as you keep it fed, hydrated and alive. In Path of Titans, progression is tied to quests. Completing them earns Marks, which you spend on abilities and skins. Players who like a clear sense of “what to do next” will find the second model easier to follow. Players who prefer progress to come from the ongoing demands of the environment will find the first more satisfying.

Path of Titans has the broader officially named platform list. Alderon’s FAQ lists PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch, alongside PC and mobile in its development statement. Support for mobile and each console can still change before release, so confirm availability for your device and country before buying.

The Isle’s listing reviewed here is on Steam for PC. No console or mobile release was established for it. If you play on a console, Path of Titans is the only one of the two with a stated console route.
Path of Titans also supports gamepads, including PlayStation and Xbox controllers. A controller is optional and is not required to play. It affects comfort, not which game is better.
Development status and what may change
Both games are still evolving, and that affects how confidently you can judge them today. The Isle is in Early Access, and its recent DevBlog shows new creatures, migration rules and a gateway system in progress. Path of Titans is pre-release and in active development, with its maps and platform list described by Alderon but not yet final. Treat any feature list as a snapshot and check the latest update before you buy.
Reviews and what they can and cannot tell you
Steam’s English review summary for The Isle, checked October 8, 2026, shows 77% positive from 62,482 reviews. Those figures change over time and reflect player sentiment on one storefront, not an independent quality test. No comparable Path of Titans figure is available on the same basis, so these numbers should not be used to say one game is better than the other.
