If you want a survival-focused battle royale with clearly defined Solo, Duo, and four-player Squad options, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is the clearer fit. If you want a wider menu of battle royale modes, including Resurgence, where fallen teammates can redeploy, Call of Duty: Warzone is the clearer fit.
One clarification first: “Call of Duty” is a franchise, not a single game. In this comparison it means Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale that is the closest like-for-like match to PUBG. Activision’s Warzone page also lists Modern Warfare 4 as a separate entry, and that release is not part of this comparison.
Which game fits how you play
- You want a survival-first loop. Drop in, loot, and last as the play area shrinks. PUBG’s official description is built around that loop.
- You play in a fixed party size. PUBG names Solo, Duo, and Squad (four players) as distinct options.
- You want several battle royale formats in one game. Warzone’s official page lists Battle Royale, Resurgence, and Black Ops Royale.
- Teammate recovery matters to you. Warzone’s Resurgence description explicitly includes redeploying fallen teammates. The PUBG overview does not describe an equivalent mechanic.
- You are choosing on price alone. Both games are presented as free to play, so cost does not separate them.
What PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS offers
KRAFTON’s official PUBG game overview describes a battle royale that pits 100 players against each other. Players land, loot, and survive as the battleground shrinks. The overview lists Solo, Duo, and Squad, and its Squad description says a player can team up with three others. A training mode is also described.
The overview does not describe a respawn or redeploy mechanic for teammates who fall. If that matters to you, check the rules of the specific mode you plan to play before committing.

What Call of Duty: Warzone offers
Activision’s Warzone page (the UK English version) describes the game as free to play and promises “massive battlegrounds, a deep cast of Operators, and an expanding arsenal of weapons.” It lists three modes:
- Battle Royale: a last-team-standing format with a shrinking gas zone.
- Resurgence: fallen teammates can redeploy back into the match.
- Black Ops Royale: listed on the page, but the page does not detail its rules, so check the in-game mode description.

- PUBG’s official overview links to Steam, Epic, PlayStation, and Xbox storefronts.
- Warzone’s official page links to Xbox, Xbox PC, Battle.net, PlayStation, and Steam.
- These are storefront routes. They are not a complete compatibility list across console generations, regions, or hardware configurations. Confirm device support on the store page before you download.
What the official sources do not settle
The publishers’ pages describe what each game is designed to do. They do not establish which game looks better, plays better, is more balanced, or matches players faster. They also do not report active player counts, queue times, or win rates, so claims about popularity or matchmaking are outside what this comparison can support.

Labels such as “PUBG is more realistic” or “Warzone is faster” are subjective. The comparison above is based on the publishers’ own descriptions and the storefront information they list, not on hands-on testing.

KRAFTON’s roadmap, dated March 23, 2026, describes continued PUBG work on maps, ranked play, and modes. Roadmap language describes plans rather than guaranteed delivery, and the roadmap is several months old, so check KRAFTON’s news page for what has shipped. Warzone’s modes and playlists rotate with each season, so the mode list above reflects the official page at the time it was cited.
