No published data ranks Pokémon GO’s Ditto disguises by how often Ditto uses them, so no species can be named the most common Ditto. What sources can tell you is which Pokémon Ditto is currently listed as using as a disguise. The October 8, 2026 guide visibly names five: Mankey, Growlithe, Magnemite, Voltorb, and Sentret. A September 18, 2026 guide lists six more regular-pool names. Treat the full October list as unconfirmed, and check it again before you hunt.
Which Pokémon Ditto is disguised as right now
Ditto in Pokémon GO appears in the wild as another Pokémon and reveals itself only after you catch it. The table below separates the names that are visible in the October 8, 2026 Dexerto guide from the longer regular pool in the September 18, 2026 Pokémon GO Hub guide.

The October Dexerto article presents its disguise table with a “Load More” control, and the entries visible before that control are the five names above. The six September names have not been confirmed as current in October. Their absence from the visible October entries does not prove they are no longer eligible, and the five October names should not be read as the complete October pool.

Why no species can be called the most common
The question assumes that some disguises turn up as Ditto more often than others. The guides above provide species lists and dates, not encounter rates, and neither the official Niantic materials nor these guides publish a comparative likelihood for any disguise. Any ranking would be a guess. Treat every listed species as equally eligible in the sources available, and do not assume that a particular species is more likely to be Ditto.
How a Ditto disguise is revealed
You cannot identify Ditto from its disguise before catching it. The Pokémon looks like an ordinary wild encounter, and the Ditto form appears only after the capture. Catching eligible wild Pokémon is the only practical way to find one, and no single encounter guarantees a result.

- Spin PokéStops or throw Poké Balls automatically in Pokémon GO for hands-free gameplay (and Great Balls and Ultra Balls can be thrown too!)
Shiny Ditto
A Pokémon that appears Shiny is not Ditto. Niantic’s Help Center states: “Ditto will not disguise itself as other Shiny Pokémon, even if Ditto is Shiny. However, a Shiny Ditto may disguise itself as a non-Shiny Pokémon!” (Niantic Help Center, “What are Shiny Pokémon?”). A Shiny Ditto therefore disguises itself as a non-Shiny species, so a Shiny-looking encounter is not a Ditto lead.
Event disguise pools
Event disguises can differ from the regular pool. Pokémon GO’s official announcement documented temporary Ditto disguise changes during the Pokémon Pokopia Celebration, which ran March 10–16, 2026 (Pokémon GO, “New costumed Ditto debut during the Pokémon Pokopia Celebration Event!”). Those event disguises ended with that event, so the regular-pool lists above do not describe them. Check the official announcement for any future event before assuming a list applies.

Catching eligible encounters
Ditto can be caught with Pokémon GO Plus and compatible auto-catch devices, according to Pokémon GO Hub. These devices can help catch eligible wild encounters, but they do not identify Ditto in advance, and a device is not required to find one.

There is no official, current list of regular-pool disguises in the sources reviewed. The October 8, 2026 Dexerto guide is the most recent article found, but its visible list stops at five names. The September 18, 2026 Pokémon GO Hub guide provides the fuller 11-name regular pool. Check a current list again after any event or game update, because the regular pool can change.
