The choice is best treated as a starting emphasis, not a permanent class: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 develops skills through use, so pick the play you’re most eager to practice and branch out as you go.
What the Soldier, Scout, and Advisor choices suit
The opening choice is about the kind of activity you want to emphasize, not a universal ranking of builds. The game supports combat, stealth, and ranged approaches, and the publisher describes skills as growing through play. There is no published comparison showing one choice is objectively best or easiest.

| Choice | Best fit if you want to… | What that means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Soldier | Practice direct combat and weapons | Choose this if close-quarters fighting and learning weapon techniques are what you most want to do early. The publisher describes distinct moves and combos for different weapon styles. |
| Scout | Use stealth and ranged attacks | Choose this if you enjoy avoiding detection, finding position, and attacking from range. The game supports bows, crossbows, and primitive firearms; ranged equipment also has maintenance considerations. |
| Advisor | Lean on speech and knowledge | Choose this if conversation, persuasion, and scholarship sound more appealing than leading with weapons. A guide to the early choice describes Advisor as the knowledge-and-speech emphasis. |
The publisher’s official game page sums up its approach as “Gameplay Decides your playstyle” and says Henry’s skills level up as they are used. Its descriptions connect weapon use, stealth, blacksmithing, and alchemy with skill development, which favors trying the activities you enjoy rather than sticking to a rigid class concept.
Does the opening choice lock you into a build?
No: the available descriptions support treating Soldier, Advisor, or Scout as a limited head start rather than a permanent assignment. The exact opening options and their starting emphasis are documented by a secondary guide; the publisher’s own materials establish that skills develop through use. Together, these support the practical takeaway that you can grow other skills later. They do not establish that every perk is available to every character, or that every decision can be reset.

That flexibility also means you do not need to plan a perfectly optimized build before starting. If you choose Soldier, you can still engage with stealth or speech; if you choose Scout, you can still practice weapons. Treat the opening bonus as a nudge toward an early activity, not a promise that you must use only that approach.
How to choose if you are undecided
- Pick the loop you most want to practice. Want weapon drills and open fights? Choose Soldier. Prefer slipping past enemies or attacking at range? Choose Scout. Want to try resolving situations through conversation and knowledge? Choose Advisor.
- Choose based on preference, not an assumed difficulty ranking. The official descriptions show different approaches, but do not provide comparative evidence that one is easier, stronger, or more efficient overall.
- Broaden as the game gives you reasons to. Skills improve through use, and the publisher links multiple activities to progression. You can develop beyond your initial emphasis instead of treating it as a permanent class.
For additional design context, an August 21, 2024 Xbox Wire preview by John Bedford of PLAION described combat as deliberate and tactical and noted that weapon practice deepens skill; it also discussed stealth-focused combat as a way to move between objectives unseen. Those are preview-era descriptions, not current patch notes or proof of a best build.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Keep Hardcore Mode separate from the playstyle choice
Hardcore Mode is a separate challenge setting, not another name for Soldier, Scout, or Advisor. According to PLAION Player Support, Hardcore removes the automatic player marker and compass directions, disables fast travel, and requires at least three permanent negative perks at the beginning. Consider it as a distinct difficulty decision rather than a reason to choose a particular opening playstyle.
