There is no confirmed firmware range that the available project documentation establishes for both PS2 and original Xbox emulation on PS5. PS5SX2 reports tests on firmware 6.02–12.70, while XPSemu’s README requires a jailbroken PS5 but gives no specific firmware list. Those statements are not interchangeable: the PS5SX2 range is project-reported testing, not a guarantee for every model or version, and it does not establish XPSemu compatibility.
What firmware information do the emulator projects publish?
| Emulator and target | Project-published firmware evidence | Required jailbreak tools | User-supplied files | Reported compatibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PS5SX2 (PS2) | The project says development used a PS5 Pro on firmware 11.40 and testers ran it on other PS5 models, including a Slim, on firmware 6.02–12.70. This is reported testing, not a promise that every version in the interval works. PS5SX2 README | A jailbroken PS5, PS5SX2 Helper payload loaded with kstuff, and ShadowMountPlus. PS5SX2 README | The user’s own PS2 BIOS and game images. Listed formats: ISO, CHD, CSO, and ZSO. The project does not include BIOS files, games, or keys. PS5SX2 README | Active work in progress; the project says compatibility improvements are ongoing. PS5SX2 README |
| XPSemu (original Xbox) | The README requires a jailbroken PS5 but does not list supported firmware versions. Do not infer a range from PS5SX2 testing. XPSemu README | XPSemu Tools running alongside kstuff, plus a way to install or mount the app folder. XPSemu README | An MCPX boot ROM, Xbox BIOS/flash ROM, Xbox hard-disk image, and games in XISO format. Full redump disc images must first be converted to XISO. The project does not include Xbox system files or games. XPSemu README | For Alpha 1, developers reported Halo 2 as good; Forza Motorsport and Fable: The Lost Chapters as playable in-game with performance limitations; and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex as running smoothly. These are reports for named titles, not a library-wide guarantee. XPSemu README |
What does the PS5SX2 range mean?
PS5SX2 is a native PS5 port of PCSX2. Its documentation identifies firmware 11.40 as the development firmware on a PS5 Pro and reports tester use on other PS5 models, including a Slim, across firmware 6.02–12.70. Treat this as the project’s description of development and testing—not proof that every firmware in that span, every console model, or every combination of payloads is compatible. PS5SX2 README
Firmware alone is not the whole setup. The project lists the jailbreak, PS5SX2 Helper with kstuff, and ShadowMountPlus as runtime requirements. You also need your own PS2 BIOS and game images; the README lists ISO, CHD, CSO, and ZSO formats. PS5SX2 does not supply BIOS files, games, or keys. PS5SX2 README
Another PS2 option: RetroArch
The PS5 RetroArch project’s release notes include LRPS2 and describe developer testing of PS2 gameplay. They are alpha documentation, however, and do not provide an emulator-specific firmware matrix that answers the combined PS2-and-Xbox question. Check the current release requirements if considering it as a separate route. PS5 RetroArch release notes

Does XPSemu list supported PS5 firmware?
No specific PS5 firmware versions are listed in the current XPSemu README. It describes the app as running on a jailbroken PS5 and documents tools and file prerequisites, but that is not enough to establish which firmware builds work. XPSemu README
XPSemu is a native PS5 port of xemu. Its listed setup includes XPSemu Tools alongside kstuff and a method to install or mount the app folder. The required user-provided Xbox files are an MCPX boot ROM, a BIOS/flash ROM, and a hard-disk image; games need to be in XISO format. The README says full redump disc images must be converted to XISO first, and that the project does not include system files or games. XPSemu README

Why a jailbreak firmware range is not an emulator compatibility list
A September 30, 2026 report describes the Relapse jailbreak as covering firmware 7.00–13.60. That is a general jailbreak-coverage claim; it does not establish that PS5SX2 or XPSemu works across that range. Emulator builds, required payloads, kstuff/tooling, and the method used to mount or install the app all matter. Relapse coverage report
For an exact console and firmware, check the current emulator release notes and maintainer documentation, then confirm that the jailbreak and required payload/tool versions support that same setup. No shared PS2-and-Xbox firmware range can be stated from the published information above.

Do not confuse emulation with official PS5 backward compatibility
Sony says the overwhelming majority of more than 4,000 PS4 games are playable on PS5. That is Sony’s PS4 backward-compatibility statement; it does not mean PS5 officially supports PS2 discs, PS2 game files, or original Xbox games. The PS2 and Xbox options here are separate homebrew emulator projects with their own requirements. Sony PS5 backward compatibility support
