For most low-end Windows PCs, start with the latest BlueStacks 5 release that your Windows version supports and create a Nougat 32-bit instance. If the game requires 64-bit Android or a specific Android release, follow that requirement instead. The Android instance—not just the BlueStacks release number—is usually the decisive choice.
For most low-end Windows PCs, start with the latest BlueStacks 5 release that your version of Windows supports, then create a Nougat 32-bit instance. It is the best first test when the game does not specify a different Android version. If the game requires 64-bit Android, Android 8/9, Android 11, or Android 13, the app’s requirement takes priority over the low-end-PC recommendation.

That distinction matters because “BlueStacks version” can mean two different things:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- The BlueStacks release: the installed program, such as BlueStacks 5.22.250.
- The Android instance: the Android environment inside BlueStacks, such as Nougat 32-bit, Nougat 64-bit, Pie 64-bit, Android 11, or Android 13.
For performance and compatibility, the second choice is often more important. Do not assume that BlueStacks 4, an old BlueStacks 5 installer, or Nougat 32-bit is universally fastest. There is no single fastest build for every CPU, graphics device, Windows configuration, and game.

Why Nougat 32-bit is the best first test
Nougat 32-bit is usually the sensible starting point for a genuinely low-end PC because many games do not need a newer Android environment. BlueStacks’ own Android-version guidance associates Nougat 32-bit with games including Free Fire and Call of Duty: Mobile. Choosing an older compatible Android instance can avoid unnecessary compatibility layers and resource demands.
That is a recommendation to test first, not a benchmark claim. BlueStacks does not publish a universal result proving that Nougat 32-bit delivers the highest frame rate on every low-end computer. A game that needs a different architecture or Android release may run better—or run at all—only in the matching instance.
Choose the Android instance according to the game
Nougat 32-bit
Choose Nougat 32-bit when:
- You have not identified a special Android or architecture requirement.
- The game is known to support the older 32-bit environment.
- You are trying to reduce unnecessary workload on a PC with limited RAM or CPU capacity.
It is a particularly reasonable first attempt for games such as Free Fire and Call of Duty: Mobile, which BlueStacks lists as examples for this environment. If the game refuses to install or reports that 64-bit Android is required, move to Nougat 64-bit rather than repeatedly tuning the wrong instance.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Use Nougat 64-bit when the game is available only for 64-bit Android or BlueStacks’ compatibility information specifically identifies it. BlueStacks gives Teamfight Tactics as an example of a game requiring Nougat 64-bit.
Do not select Nougat 64-bit simply because it sounds more modern. On a weak PC, the extra compatibility requirement is a reason to use it—not a performance advantage by itself.
Pie 64-bit
Pie 64-bit is the appropriate compatibility choice for apps that require Android 8 or Android 9. BlueStacks lists Genshin Impact and NFS Heat Studio as examples associated with this instance.
Pie 64-bit may work acceptably on some older computers, but it should not be the default for a low-end machine when Nougat 32-bit supports the game. A newer or different instance cannot compensate for insufficient CPU, graphics performance, or available memory.

Android 11 and Android 13
Use Android 11 or Android 13 only when the application requires that Android level or works specifically in that environment. BlueStacks describes Android 13 as its latest available Android version in its Android-version guide, while its release notes document fixes across Android 11 and Android 13.
These instances expand app compatibility, but they are conditional choices for a low-end PC. If an older supported instance runs the game correctly, there is little reason to select a newer Android environment solely for its version number.
Which BlueStacks release should you install?
Use the newest BlueStacks 5 release compatible with your operating system, rather than deliberately searching for an old installer. An older release is not automatically faster, safer, or more efficient. Updates can include compatibility, stability, and game-specific fixes.

BlueStacks’ release notes currently list BlueStacks 5.22.250, released July 17, 2026, as the latest listed release in the supplied documentation. Because release availability and compatibility can change, check the official BlueStacks 5.22 release notes before treating that number as permanent. The important rule is: install the latest release that your Windows edition supports, then choose the lightest compatible Android instance.
Windows 7 and Windows 8 exception
If the PC runs Windows 7 or Windows 8, do not simply install the newest BlueStacks version. BlueStacks says those operating systems support only BlueStacks 5.21.300 or below because newer releases are incompatible with them. The practical choices are to use a supported older BlueStacks 5 release or upgrade Windows before pursuing the latest version.
Windows 7 and 8 are also old operating systems with limited driver and application support. Even a compatible BlueStacks build may deliver poor results if the computer falls close to the minimum hardware requirements.
Check whether the PC is suitable before tuning BlueStacks
BlueStacks’ published minimum requirements include:
- At least 4 GB of system RAM.
- At least 5 GB of free disk space.
- An Intel or AMD processor.
- Administrator access.
- Current graphics drivers.
For its recommended configuration, BlueStacks additionally points to Windows 10 or later, a multi-core Intel or AMD processor, a graphics device meeting its published guidance, and hardware virtualization enabled. These are not guarantees of smooth gameplay. The minimum specification means the software may run; it does not promise stable frame rates or short loading times.

On Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems with Hyper-V enabled, BlueStacks lists Windows 10 version 1903 or newer or Windows 11, at least 4 GB of RAM, 5 GB of free storage, current graphics drivers, administrator access, and the applicable Hyper-V configuration. BlueStacks says version 5.20 and newer can run with Hyper-V either enabled or disabled. The complete requirements vary with the Windows configuration, so consult the official Hyper-V requirements if installation fails.
Low-end settings that usually matter more than the version label
Changing from Android 13 to Nougat 32-bit will not fix every performance problem. BlueStacks exposes several controls that can have a larger practical effect: CPU and memory allocation, graphics renderer, GPU assignment, resolution, frame-rate target, and graphics-engine mode. Open the BlueStacks settings menu and adjust one group of settings at a time so you can identify what helped.
Use one instance at a time
Run only the game instance you need. Multiple active instances divide CPU, RAM, storage bandwidth, and graphics resources. BlueStacks specifically warns that numerous instances can affect overall performance and recommends limiting active instances on low- or average-specification systems.
Start with conservative resolution and FPS
- Use a modest display resolution rather than rendering at a high desktop resolution.
- Set a conservative frame-rate target appropriate to the game and monitor.
- Lower in-game graphics quality before increasing emulator resource allocations.
- Close browsers, launchers, recording software, and other heavy background applications.
A lower FPS target can reduce sustained CPU and GPU load. It will not make a demanding game fast, but it can make frame pacing more consistent on a machine that is constantly hitting its limits.
Recommended Free Tools
Allocate only the resources the host can spare
More assigned RAM is not automatically better. The host operating system and other programs need memory too. BlueStacks’ release documentation says assigning 8 GB to an instance requires at least 11 GB of installed system RAM, while assigning 12 GB requires more than 16 GB. Therefore, a PC with 4–8 GB total RAM should not be treated as a candidate for heavy BlueStacks memory allocations.

- Turn the speakers on and adjust the volume using one simple control (located on the front of the speakers); volume control includes On/Standby
- Simple plug-and-play setup (no drivers needed); can be used with headphones via the 3.5mm jack connector
- Frequency range of 103 Hz - 20 KHz; 2.2 watts of total RMS power (1.1 watts per speaker)
- Measures 2.76 by 3.55 by 5.3 inches (LxWxH); weighs approximately 1.4 pounds;
On a 4 GB machine, BlueStacks itself is already close to the published minimum before Windows and the game consume memory. On an 8 GB machine, leave enough memory for Windows and background services instead of assigning nearly all of it to the emulator. If Windows begins paging heavily, a larger BlueStacks allocation can make the whole computer feel slower.
Test the graphics modes when there are visual problems
On Nougat instances, BlueStacks exposes Compatibility and Performance graphics-engine modes. BlueStacks states that most games run smoothly in Performance mode, while some games require Compatibility mode.
If the game opens with black textures, flickering, missing effects, crashes, or other rendering errors:
- Try the other graphics-engine mode.
- Test the alternative graphics renderer available in your installation.
- Verify that BlueStacks is using the intended graphics device if the PC has more than one.
- Restart BlueStacks after changing graphics settings.
Changing the renderer or engine mode is a more logical first troubleshooting step than switching Android versions without evidence that the app needs a different Android release. See BlueStacks’ settings documentation for the available controls.
Hardware virtualization and graphics drivers
Hardware virtualization is an important prerequisite for many modern emulator configurations. If the processor and firmware support it, enable virtualization in the PC’s firmware settings and confirm that Windows and BlueStacks are configured consistently. BlueStacks identifies disabled virtualization as a source of compatibility problems with current releases and lists virtualization as part of its recommended configuration.
The exact firmware label varies—common terms include Intel Virtualization Technology or AMD SVM—so use the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s instructions rather than changing unrelated security settings. Do not disable security or virtualization features as a generic “speed trick.” Hyper-V, virtualization-based security, and BlueStacks compatibility can interact differently across Windows installations; change them only when you understand the trade-off and have a specific compatibility problem to solve.
Also update the graphics driver. Start with Windows Update and the official support page for the computer, Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA graphics hardware. Current drivers are included in BlueStacks’ published requirements and can correct rendering or startup issues.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Optional Windows maintenance tools
If the emulator is competing with background processes or the Windows installation is generally sluggish, a Windows cleanup tool such as Outbyte PC Repair may help identify disk clutter, resource pressure, or general system issues. Treat it as optional maintenance—not a guaranteed BlueStacks FPS fix—and use Windows’ built-in storage and task-management tools first.
For graphics or input problems that remain after Windows Update and the PC/GPU manufacturer’s official driver page, a driver troubleshooting tool such as Outbyte Driver Updater is another optional route. It is not required for every low-end PC, and third-party driver software should not replace checking the manufacturer’s official driver source.
A practical decision tree
- Check Windows. If you use Windows 7 or 8, stay at BlueStacks 5.21.300 or below, or upgrade Windows before considering the latest release.
- Check the game’s requirement. Look for an explicit Android version or 64-bit requirement in the game’s official listing, BlueStacks’ compatibility guidance, or the game developer’s documentation.
- If there is no special requirement, create Nougat 32-bit. This is the recommended first test for a low-end PC.
- If installation or launch fails because 64-bit Android is required, use Nougat 64-bit.
- If the game requires Android 8 or 9, use Pie 64-bit.
- If it requires Android 11 or Android 13, use the matching Android 11 or Android 13 instance.
- If performance is poor, tune the setup: use one instance, reduce resolution and FPS, close background programs, verify virtualization, update graphics drivers, and test the documented graphics modes.
How to create the recommended instance
BlueStacks provides the different Android environments through its instance-management tools. In BlueStacks 5, open the Multi-instance Manager, choose the option to create a new instance, and select Nougat 32-bit when the game has no special requirement. If that option is unavailable or the game needs another environment, select the required Android version instead.
After creating the instance, install only the target game first and test it before adding extra apps or launching multiple instances. This makes it easier to tell whether a problem comes from the Android environment, the game, or the host PC.
When a hardware upgrade is the real answer
If the PC has only 4 GB of RAM, uses an overloaded mechanical drive, or has a very old processor or integrated graphics, changing BlueStacks instances may produce only a small improvement. More RAM can help when Windows is constantly paging, and an SSD can improve loading and general responsiveness, but neither upgrade guarantees higher in-game FPS.

Do not buy generic laptop RAM or an SSD without checking the exact computer model, memory generation, slot count, maximum supported capacity, and storage interface. A compatible upgrade guide requires those details; the right part for one laptop may not fit another.
Bottom line
Install the latest BlueStacks 5 release supported by your Windows version and begin with a Nougat 32-bit instance. Move to Nougat 64-bit, Pie 64-bit, Android 11, or Android 13 only when the game requires that architecture or Android release. On a low-end computer, one carefully configured instance, modest resolution and FPS, enabled virtualization, current graphics drivers, and restrained memory allocation usually matter at least as much as the BlueStacks version itself.
For a precise recommendation, the useful details are the PC’s CPU model, total RAM, graphics hardware, Windows version, and the exact game you want to run.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which BlueStacks version should I use on a low-end PC?
Start with BlueStacks 5 and a Nougat 32-bit instance, provided the game supports it. Use the latest BlueStacks 5 release compatible with your Windows version rather than assuming an older installer is faster.
Is BlueStacks 4 faster than BlueStacks 5 on weak hardware?
No. BlueStacks 4 or an older BlueStacks 5 build is not automatically faster. The best result depends on the PC, Windows configuration, drivers, virtualization settings, and game. Start with the current compatible BlueStacks 5 release and choose the appropriate Android instance.
When should I use Nougat 64-bit?
Use Nougat 64-bit when the app requires 64-bit Android. Nougat 32-bit is the better first test only when the game has no such requirement.
Can BlueStacks 5 run on Windows 7 or Windows 8?
BlueStacks lists Windows 7 and Windows 8 as compatible only with BlueStacks 5.21.300 or below. Upgrade Windows before installing a newer release, if the PC supports the upgrade.
How much RAM does BlueStacks need for gaming?
The published minimum is 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of free storage, but meeting those requirements does not guarantee smooth gameplay. A low-end PC should use one instance, modest resolution and FPS, current graphics drivers, and only as much assigned memory as the host can spare.
The Bottom Line
Best default: the latest BlueStacks 5 release compatible with your Windows version, using a Nougat 32-bit instance when the game has no special Android requirement. Use another instance only when the game requires it, and tune resolution, FPS, virtualization, drivers, and background processes before assuming the BlueStacks release is the problem.
