PC-only players should compare PC Game Pass first; console players can start with Essential if they mainly want a smaller game library and online multiplayer. Before subscribing, check that the games you want are included and review the live price and terms for your region.

Which plan fits your way of playing?
Choose Essential for a console-first, lower-commitment feature set
Essential is the starting point if you play on console, want online multiplayer and are content with its smaller listed library. It does not include new-release games on day one, so it is a poor fit if immediate access to new releases is the main reason you subscribe.

Choose Premium for a bigger library without needing launch-day access
Premium is the middle option for players who want a larger library across devices and can wait for Xbox-published games. Xbox says those titles join within one year of launch, subject to select-title exclusions. The stated offer excludes Call of Duty titles, so check the terms for any specific game rather than assuming it will be available at launch or later under the same rule.
Choose Ultimate if you will use its broader bundle
Ultimate combines the largest Xbox-listed library with day-one games, cloud gaming, console multiplayer and the listed partner services: EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics. It is the most relevant option if you will use several of those inclusions. A larger catalog alone does not make it the better fit; check whether the games and services you care about are included.

Choose PC Game Pass for PC-only play
If you play on Windows PC and want day-one titles plus EA Play, PC Game Pass is the directly targeted plan. Xbox says cloud gaming is not included with this plan. If you also need console access or cloud play, compare the other plans’ platform and feature terms before choosing.
How to make the decision
- Start with your device. For PC-only play, compare PC Game Pass. For console play, compare Essential, Premium and Ultimate. Xbox also lists streaming on supported phones and tablets, selected smart TVs, Meta VR headsets and a web browser; compatibility depends on device and region. See Xbox’s current plan comparison for applicable support details.
- Decide whether day-one access matters. Ultimate and PC Game Pass include day-one titles. Premium’s Xbox-published games arrive within one year, subject to exclusions, and Essential does not include new-release titles on day one. Verify the terms for the particular title you want.
- Check the actual games, not just the count. Search the current library for games you plan to play and confirm that they are available on your platform and in your region. Titles leave the service, and a subscription only provides access while the game remains in the library and your subscription is active.
- Count only benefits you will use. If you do not play the included partner-service content, do not treat those inclusions as a reason to pay for Ultimate. EA Play is listed with both Ultimate and PC Game Pass; Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics are listed with Ultimate.
- Estimate your cloud use. The current US plan page lists monthly limits of five hours for Essential, ten for Premium and fifteen for Ultimate. PC Game Pass does not include cloud gaming. Check the live terms and your device’s compatibility if streaming is important to you.
- Compare the ongoing price and billing terms at checkout. Promotional offers may depend on eligibility, region and timing, and may renew at the regular price unless cancelled. Xbox says recurring billing is on by default; review the renewal date and price before confirming.
What do the plans cost?
There is no reliable four-plan standard-price comparison here: Xbox’s indexed US comparison content displayed Ultimate at $22.99 per month and a limited introductory Premium offer, but the opened official pages did not expose a complete, consistent set of standard prices for all four tiers. Those displayed figures are not a verified current price table. Check the live Xbox offer page while signed in, select your region and review the renewal price and billing terms before subscribing. Promotions can be limited to eligible customers, regions or periods and may require a credit card.

What to check before subscribing
- Confirm your preferred games are currently in the library, on your platform and in your region.
- Check whether a title’s launch-day access is covered; Xbox’s published day-one wording includes select-game exclusions.
- Verify the supported device and regional availability if you plan to use cloud gaming.
- Note the renewal price and date, since recurring billing continues until cancelled. Xbox says you can cancel through your Microsoft account or Xbox console before the next billing date.
Xbox’s official Game Pass FAQ says subscribers can access library games until the subscription is cancelled or expires, or the game leaves the library.
