To find one, you need two things: its location, which an interactive map can help with, and the task that guards it, which ranges from a ball-routing Curio to a timed star route, a platforming climb, a clue to inspect, or a creature to groom. The map’s total count is not settled, so treat any single number as the figure from a specific page on a specific date.
What Whimstars do
Whimstars are collected in the open world and used by the Heart of Infinity to unlock certain outfits and upgrade abilities, according to the Infinity Nikki Wiki Whimstar entry. Not every Whimstar leads to the same reward or costs the same to unlock, so check what a particular outfit or upgrade needs before spending time on a hard-to-reach one.
How many Whimstars are there?
The most current count we found comes from the English Infinity Nikki interactive map, which lists 918 known Whimstars across 11 maps and was last updated October 7, 2026. That is the figure reported by that page. It is not a confirmed game-wide total.
A localized map result shows a different figure, 980, with a September 24, 2026 update. The source did not explain the gap, which could come from localization, map coverage, or something else, so neither number should be presented as the definitive total.

Puzzle and collection patterns
Most Whimstars fall into one of five task types. A single area can mix several, and not every region contains all of them. The Gamer Guides Whimstar database includes worked examples for several of these patterns.
Curio domains and ball routing
Enter a Curio and direct a ball to its goal. Routes use moving crates, switches, and pressure platforms. Work backward from the goal: identify which switch or platform the ball must pass, then decide what needs to move first. Reset the room if a crate ends up blocking the only path, rather than trying to force the ball through.

Timed scattered-star routes
Touch an incomplete star to start the route, then collect the smaller stars scattered along it. Some routes follow or ride a moving cloud. Because the route is timed, plan the order before you start, and expect to repeat it if you miss a star.
Platforming and traversal
Elevated stars can require jumps, gliding, moving platforms, ropes, launch devices, or a temporary ability change such as shrinking. Platform timing matters on moving platforms, and the Gamer Guides database includes timing examples. Confirm any ability requirement for the specific location before you travel there.

Environmental clues
Activate a nearby glowing marker first, then inspect the star-shaped object or ornament it reveals. If nothing happens, make sure you triggered the marker rather than walking past it.
Ability and creature interactions
Some Whimstars require grooming a Whimink or using purification on an environmental object. Grooming and purification steps are covered by example in the Gamer Guides entry linked above.

Finding a specific Whimstar
- Open the interactive map and note the coordinates and map name for the Whimstar you need. The page highlights coordinates and marks collection progress.
- Find the nearest named landmark or Warp Spire to that coordinate. Coordinates alone can be hard to match to the in-game world, so use the landmark to orient yourself.
- Cross-check the location against a walkthrough entry that gives directions relative to landmarks.
- Confirm any prerequisite ability for that location before you travel, since not every location requires one.
- Mark the Whimstar as collected on the tracker once you have it, so the progress count stays accurate.

When something doesn’t match
If a location, count, or puzzle isn’t what a guide describes, check these first:
- Confirm the map’s update date and compare it with the date of the guide you are reading.
- Check your game version against the version the guide covers.
- Compare the puzzle against a newer walkthrough, not an older one, if the mechanics differ.
- Do not conclude that a Whimstar is unavailable or bugged just because it is missing from a map. Verify the version and tracker first.
Counts from different guides can differ, so use the date and scope of each total before relying on it.
