| Save Mia | Mia survives and escapes with Ethan. | This is the route that leads into the released add-on, which explores Zoe’s fate after the main game. |
| Save Zoe | According to Destructoid’s outcome guide, Eveline later kills both Zoe and Mia, and Ethan is rescued alone. | This is an alternate outcome, rather than the branch followed by the add-on. |
These outcomes are summarized by Destructoid’s guide to the Mia-or-Zoe choice. Capcom describes End of Zoe as revealing what happens to Zoe after the events of Resident Evil 7.
Which choice should you make?
Save Mia for the story path continued by the add-on
Choose Mia if this is your first run and you want the main-game route that connects to End of Zoe. Capcom’s Gold Edition announcement says the edition includes the main game and End of Zoe; the add-on focuses on Zoe’s fate after the main story.
#1 Best Overall
- FEAR COMES HOME -- Fear, combat, exploration, and item management: these are the four pillars of survival horror, a genre that has never been more masterfully executed than in the gameplay of Resident Evil. The horror continues in the ground-breaking Resident Evil 7. Step into the new Isolated View and experience true survival horror in a world created by the all-new RE Engine.
- DEEP IN THE BAYOU - When Ethan Winters opened his inbox, the last thing he expected was to find an email from his wife; she had been missing for three years. The message was simple: "Come get me," and an address in Louisiana. This leads Ethan to a decrepit mansion in the heart of the bayou. The place has a seriously creepy vibe, but Ethan continues his search – until a stranger attacks him and knocks him unconscious. Ethan has no idea what awaits him when he wakes up...for he is now in the clutches of the Baker family.
- A NEW PERSPECTIVE -- In RESIDENT EVIL 7, we're changing the way you interact with the world. For this next major entry in the series, play from a first-person point of view, dramatically increasing your ability to become fully absorbed in the world we have created.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
Save Zoe to see the alternate ending
Choose Zoe if you are curious about the other branch or want to make the decision that fits your role-play. It is a valid in-game choice, but the resulting ending is the more tragic one described above.
Is saving Mia officially the canon choice?
Capcom’s cited announcements establish that End of Zoe continues Zoe’s story after the main game, but they do not explicitly label the Mia choice “canon.” Calling Mia the continuity choice is an inference from the released add-on and its connection to Zoe’s post-game fate, not a formal canon ruling from Capcom.

Where does End of Zoe fit?
Capcom announced End of Zoe as an add-on about the aftermath of the main game, and listed it among the contents of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition. Its October 2017 announcement named PS4, Xbox One, and PC as release platforms and described the add-on as available through Gold Edition, the Season Pass, or separate purchase at that time. Those are historical release details, not confirmation of current stock, prices, or availability in your region. Check the platform storefront and edition listing before buying.
Capcom’s Xbox Series X support page lists the base game and the End of Zoe and Not A Hero DLC, but it is not a retailer listing.
