Official SEGA material says she follows him, works to make him notice her, and fell for him at first sight. What those sources do not establish is that Sonic returns her feelings or that the two are an official couple.
Where Amy’s crush is stated
SEGA’s current Japanese-language character profile for Amy says she follows Sonic and works hard to make him notice her. A passage in that profile describes her as devoted and hardworking, improving herself so that Sonic will turn toward her. The original Japanese reads: 「ソニックを振り向かせるために自分磨きを欠かさない、一途で努力家な一面も。」 The English rendering here is a translation, not an official English quote.
SEGA’s Sonic Channel story “Sonic & Amy,” dated February 22, 2021, gives the origin of the crush. It says Amy falls in love with Sonic at first sight when they meet in Sonic CD. Metal Sonic kidnaps her, Sonic rescues her, and then he disappears after the incident. The story says Amy keeps longing for him and following him.
Is the crush reciprocated?
Not in the sources that establish the crush. The February 2021 story presents their later dynamic as a mix of Amy’s direct advances and Sonic’s evasive reactions. It does not settle the relationship as a couple, and SEGA’s framing leaves its status open. Treat the crush as established and the romance as unresolved.

How the official portrayals compare
Amy appears in several official SEGA materials, and each one emphasizes something different. The table below lists the sources checked for this article, with the publication details each one states.
| Source | Type and date | How it describes Amy | Does it state Sonic’s feelings? |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEGA Sonic Channel Amy profile (Japanese) | Current official character profile; date not stated | Cheerful and kind; keeps pursuing Sonic and works to make him notice her | No |
| SEGA Sonic Channel story “Sonic & Amy” | Official story dated February 22, 2021 | Falls in love at first sight in Sonic CD; keeps following Sonic after he rescues her from Metal Sonic | No; Sonic’s reactions are evasive and the relationship is not resolved |
| SEGA Sonic Origins manual | Official game manual; date not stated | “Sonic’s greatest fan, she is energetic and always ready to join the action”; identifies Sonic CD as her first appearance | Not stated |
| SEGA Sonic Superstars manual and character page | Official game material; date not stated | Emphasizes her energy, kindness, sense of justice, and helping the weak; the crush is not the focus | Not stated |
These descriptions are compatible. The crush is one part of Amy’s identity, and the official character material also presents her as an active, helpful character. Readers who see only the romantic angle are seeing one side of her profile.

Limits of the evidence
- The sources establish Amy’s feelings. They do not establish a confirmed mutual couple.
- The statements above come from SEGA’s own game-franchise material. They do not settle how every TV series, comic, or other adaptation treats Amy’s interest in Sonic.
- Some of the official materials cited here do not show a publication date, so the article does not assign one to them.
The short answer, then: Amy Rose. Her crush is clear in SEGA’s official material. Whether Sonic ever feels the same is left open in that material.
