The girl most players mean is 2B, an android and one of the central characters of NieR:Automata. Square Enix identified her by name in an official PlayStation Blog Q&A about the game’s gameplay trailer, published October 29, 2015.
What the official answer says
The PlayStation Blog post was written by Dan Seto, SEJ West Community Manager at Square Enix. Under the heading “Who is the girl/female character in the gameplay trailer?”, the answer reads: “Her name or serial number is 2B and she’s an android.” That line is the clearest official confirmation of who the question refers to.
The same answer describes her personality as comparatively cold and level-headed. It also explains that the androids in the game are subject to rules against expressing emotions, while individual models have their own characteristics. That context matters because 2B’s composed, reserved manner is partly a product of how the androids are built and governed, not simply a personality choice.
Who 2B is
- Species: android, not a human character.
- Name: 2B is presented as either her name or her serial number, a distinction the official answer leaves open.
- Demeanor: the official characterization is cold and level-headed, within the emotional restrictions placed on androids.
If you mean a different character
The Q&A is tied to the gameplay trailer, so it answers the question for that footage. NieR:Automata has other prominent characters, and if you saw a different woman in a specific scene, cover art, or trailer, the answer may differ. Note the scene’s location in the game or the trailer’s timestamp to narrow it down.
