In the ranked Solo/Duo sample published September 10, 2026, Ivern was the least-played champion across all five roles: 2,251 appearances, an estimated pick rate of about 0.85%. The sample covers Patch 26.18, Global data, all ranks, on modern PC Summoner’s Rift. That answer is bounded by those choices. It is not a permanent ranking of every mode or every match in League of Legends history.
The bottom five in the September 10 snapshot
The RiftBrain article “5 Least-Played Champions in LoL: The Current Numbers” ranks champions by total appearances. Its bottom five, ordered from fewest to most, are shown below. Pick rates are estimates derived from the article’s method and are rounded to two decimals.

| Rank (fewest first) | Champion | Appearances across five roles | Estimated pick rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ivern | 2,251 | 0.85% |
| 2 | Taric | 2,721 | 1.03% |

| 4 | Nilah | 2,876 | 1.09% |
| 5 | Renata Glasc | 3,173 | 1.20% |
Taric and Rek’Sai are only 44 appearances apart. Treat their adjacent positions as a near tie rather than a meaningful gap in popularity.
How the count was built
The method combines LoLalytics’ top, jungle, mid, bot, and support tables for the Global region, All Ranks filter, and ranked Solo/Duo data. RiftBrain describes this as Riot queue 420, 5v5 Ranked Solo on Summoner’s Rift. The steps were:
#1 Best Overall
- UNLOCK A UNIVERSE OF EXPERIENCES and compete with a global community of millions across multiple battlefields with Riot Games
- Unlocks in-game currency that can be used to purchase in-game items
- Redeemable in League of Legends, Valorant, Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, and 2XKO
- PC, mobile, console… it all works. Just enter your code at shop.riotgames.com/redeem and choose the game you want to use this virtual currency for
- This code is only redeemable on Riot Accounts in North America and Canada
- Add each champion’s appearances across the five role tables.
- Sum the five tables to a total of 2,648,430 champion appearances.
- Divide that total by ten, since each match has ten champion slots, to get 264,843 match equivalents.
- Divide each champion’s total appearances by 264,843 to estimate its pick rate. For Ivern, 2,251 divided by 264,843 gives about 0.85%.
- Sort by exact appearance counts, then round the displayed rates to two decimals.
Summing across roles matters. A champion whose games are spread between several positions can look rare in any single role table while still being played regularly overall. Ivern’s total is the figure that places him at the bottom of this list.
What the number measures and what it does not
- Appearances, not players. Each game a champion is picked counts once. A player who plays the same champion repeatedly adds to the total every time, so the figure says nothing about how many unique accounts own or have tried Ivern.
- “Global” is a filter, not full coverage. It is the data provider’s regional setting. It does not mean every match worldwide is included.
- Excluded modes. The snapshot leaves out normal games, professional play, ARAM, ARAM Mayhem, Arena, and Classic. Champion popularity in those modes could produce a different bottom list.
- Early-patch volatility. RiftBrain calls this an early-patch snapshot and notes that close rankings can change as more games are recorded. Ivern leads Taric by 470 appearances, so a change in the data window could reorder the middle of this list.
Why scope changes the answer
Two rankings that both claim to identify the least-played champion can disagree if they differ on any of these points. Compare answers only after matching all six:
Rank #2
- Queue and game mode: ranked Solo/Duo, normal games, ARAM, and other modes draw different pools of players and champions.
- Patch and collection window: a champion’s rate can shift sharply after balance changes.
- Rank tier: all-ranks data blends players of very different skill levels.
- Region coverage: a regional or multi-region filter changes which games are counted.
- Role aggregation: single-role tables and all-role totals can produce different bottom lists.
- Counting method: appearances and unique users answer different questions.
A later stats page, RiftPatchNotes’ “LoL Win Rates – Champion Stats by Rank & Position,” aggregates KR, EUW, and NA ranked Solo/Duo games on Patch 26.19. It refreshes daily and offers rank, position, and region filters. It is a useful way to check a different slice of the data, but the material available for this article does not show it producing an all-ranks, five-role bottom list. The September 10 Ivern result should therefore not be presented as a live October measurement.
Ivern’s kit and what it does not explain
Ivern is a jungler whose passive stops him from attacking ordinary non-epic camps. He spends health and mana to create groves, and the camps inside them are freed for gold and experience once they mature. Smite can complete that process immediately. RiftBrain attributes this kit description to Riot client data as mirrored by CommunityDragon.
Rank #3
The mechanic is distinctive, and it is a plausible reason a player might find Ivern’s jungle play demanding. However, the snapshot does not show that the grove mechanic caused his low pick count. The gameplay description is context only, not an explanation of the result.
