Troy Baker voices Higgs Monaghan in Death Stranding. Baker also played several prominent video-game characters, including Joel in The Last of Us and Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite.
Who is Higgs in Death Stranding?
Kojima Productions describes Higgs as the “Man in the Golden Mask,” leader of Homo Demens and an opposing force to Sam. Baker explained Higgs’s purpose in a Kojima Productions interview published July 1, 2022: “Higgs is a counterpoint to Sam. He acts as the cat to Sam’s mouse and exists to remind Sam, and the player, of the real danger that exists in this world. He’s the seed of doubt and he’s the catalyst.”
In that interview, Baker said he approached the performance by asking questions, listening, and trusting the creative team to shape his choices. He also discussed performing in different formats, including in a booth with a microphone and on a performance-capture stage.
