Why was Saquon Barkley selected?
EA’s publicly stated rationale centered on Barkley’s reverse hurdle, an iconic play from the 2024 season, and his athleticism and creativity. Evan Dexter, EA SPORTS Madden NFL’s vice president of franchise strategy and marketing, called it “one of the rare, defining moments in NFL history.” That explains EA’s public presentation of the choice; it does not establish every factor behind the company’s internal decision.

Barkley said starring on the cover and joining Madden NFL’s “99 Club” were “both dreams come true,” according to EA’s announcement.

EA released two cover designs featuring Barkley. The standard cover captures his reverse hurdle in a Kelly green Eagles throwback uniform from the team’s game against Jacksonville.
