Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA lock on a PS5 game does not identify one specific problem: the game may be tied to a different account, a Plus benefit may have ended or no longer apply, or the console may need to verify its license. If the game is missing from your library, check purchase history and hidden games as well. Start by confirming what kind of access you have, then work through the matching checks below.
First, work out whether the game is purchased or comes from PlayStation Plus
PlayStation Plus access belongs to the account with the relevant subscription or claimed benefit. If you are using another person’s account on the console, that account’s sharing settings also matter. Plus benefits are not all shared.
- Purchased game: Sign in to the PlayStation account that bought it and check transaction history to confirm the purchase completed.
- Monthly game claimed through Plus: Check that the account that claimed it has an active subscription that includes the benefit.
- Game Catalog title: Check that your membership tier includes the Game Catalog and that the title is still available through that benefit in your region. Catalog access is not the same as owning a permanent purchase. See Sony’s PlayStation Plus support and Game Catalog guidance.
A license restore cannot renew a subscription or reinstate access to a catalog title that is no longer available under your benefit.
If another account owns the game, check console sharing
When the purchase or Plus membership belongs to someone else, that account must enable sharing on this PS5 for other users of the console to access eligible downloaded games and selected Plus benefits.

- Vertical Stand sold seperately
- Sign in to the owner’s account on the PS5.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- If the setting is disabled, choose to enable it. Sony allows this setting on one PS5 at a time; if it is active on another PS5, it may need to be disabled there first.
Sharing makes eligible games and selected benefits available to other users on that console; it does not share every Plus benefit. See Sony’s Console Sharing and Offline Play instructions.
If the game is missing from your library
For a game you bought, check the buying account’s transaction history first. Sony says purchased Store games appear in the Game Library and recommends checking hidden games if a purchase is not visible. Hidden games are hidden across consoles, so unhide the title if you find it in that list.

Then check whether the purchase owner has Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled on this PS5, if you are using a different account, and restore the license as described below. A title disappearing from a Plus catalog is a different issue from a missing purchased game: confirm the transaction before treating the absence as a library problem.
Restore the game’s license
License restoration is a safe early step for a visible-but-locked game and can also help when a game or add-on cannot be located. Sony states that restoring licenses “won’t affect your data.”

- On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Select the relevant license and try launching the game again.
- Alternatively, highlight the game on its home-screen or library tile, press the Options button, and choose the per-game license restore option if available.
Restoring a license does not fix an expired Plus subscription or restore catalog access after a title leaves the applicable benefit. Check that the account still has the entitlement as well as refreshing the license. Sony’s license restoration guide lists padlocks and missing games or add-ons among the situations where it may help.
Rule out a PSN outage or outdated system software
If the account, subscription or purchase, and sharing checks are correct, check PlayStation Network status for a service alert or outage. If one is reported, wait for service to recover and try again. Then install the latest available PS5 system software and restart the console. Sony lists network and license checks among possible reasons a game may be locked; its download troubleshooting guidance covers further console steps.

Use Safe Mode only after access rights check out
If you have confirmed the correct account and entitlement, verified any required sharing, and checked service status and software, Sony recommends a database recovery step for persistent download or launch trouble:
- Start the PS5 in Safe Mode using Sony’s instructions.
- Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
- After the console restarts, try the game again.
This is a console troubleshooting step, not a way to restore ownership or a lapsed subscription. If the game remains inaccessible, contact PlayStation Support with the exact error code or message, what you did to reproduce the issue, and the time you tried. A screenshot or video may help. Sony’s game-start troubleshooting page provides additional guidance.

Ask the Family Manager about a whole-image lock
A regional Sony support page says a padlock covering the whole game image can indicate a family restriction that the Family Manager can amend. Ask the Family Manager to review parental controls. Treat the visual cue as a clue, not a universal diagnosis for every account or region.
