Make sure the sender used the right email address or gamertag. If the gift email may have gone to an address other people can access, Microsoft’s digital gift terms say anyone with access to that email can use the code.
What should the sender check?
Ask the sender to confirm the order completed and that the gift was addressed to the intended recipient. The useful distinction is whether the order is missing, the recipient details are wrong, or the code was delivered but not redeemed. If the order is not visible or its status is unclear, the sender should raise the purchase with Microsoft Support.
Why isn’t the game in my library?
A digital gift is a code to redeem, not necessarily a game that appears in the recipient’s library automatically. Sign in to the Microsoft account that should own the game, then redeem the code. If redemption in an app fails, try redeeming on the web while confirming the correct Microsoft account is signed in. Microsoft’s transaction-error guidance recommends trying web redemption and checking account selection.
Why is my Xbox gift code being rejected?
- Check the code and account. Re-enter the code carefully and make sure you are signed in to the Microsoft account meant to receive the gift.
