First check where the quest is missing: from the quest log, the on-screen tracker, the map or minimap, or the list of available World Quests. Each points to a different cause. If the quest is in your log but not on screen, tracking or map filters are sensible first checks; if it is absent from the log, verify prerequisites rather than assuming a display setting will restore it.
Identify where the quest is missing
Open your quest log and look for the exact quest. Then compare what you see with the symptom that brought you here:
- Missing from the quest log: The quest is not active in the character’s log. Check its prerequisites and relevant storyline or scenario state.
- In the log but missing from the tracker: The quest may simply not be selected for tracking.
- Tracked but missing from the map or minimap: Check map-objective visibility settings and quest-related addons.
- A World Quest is unavailable or not progressing: Check map filters, tracking settings, and whether a relevant quest chain or scenario remains incomplete.
These symptoms should not be treated as interchangeable: restoring a tracker entry does not explain why a quest is absent from the log.
If the quest is in your log but not on screen
Open the quest log, select the quest, and enable tracking again. A 2020 Blizzard forum discussion recommends this for a quest missing from the tracker; it addresses display of an active quest, not a quest that is gone from the log. Blizzard forum discussion

If the quest marker or objective is missing from the map
Open the map and check its quest-objective or quest-marker visibility controls. In a WoW: Forever beta discussion on October 6, 2026, a player reported that turning the map’s “quest objectives” checkbox back on restored quest information on the map and minimap. That report concerns the beta and does not establish the same control or behavior in every live client or game mode. WoW: Forever beta discussion
A 2025 Dragon Isles discussion also names “Track Quest POIs,” “Show Objectives,” map quest-marker filters, and automatic quest tracking as settings to inspect. Treat those as labels reported by players, not guaranteed paths or labels for your version of WoW. Dragon Isles discussion

Test whether an addon is involved
Temporarily disable quest-related addons, reload the interface, and see whether the quest information returns. If it does, re-enable addons one at a time to identify whether one changes tracking or map display.
These are diagnostic checks, not guaranteed fixes. In a 2020 forum report, a player said World Quests returned after disabling World Quest Tracker; a separate Questie discussion describes tracker and icon toggles that helped some players. If a World Quest or quest chain remains unavailable
Review the relevant storyline and scenario state, especially if the problem began after an interrupted scenario. In one 2025 forum report, a player said completing an interrupted Lorewalker Cho scenario restored access to quests and World Quests. This is one reported case, not evidence that an unfinished scenario is the usual cause. Blizzard forum discussion

- Confirm the exact quest name and character, then check the quest’s prerequisites and any related chain or scenario.
- If it is in the log, re-enable tracking and inspect map visibility controls.
- Temporarily test with quest-related addons disabled.
- If the quest remains unavailable, consult current Blizzard support or report a possible bug.
The available reports do not establish a universal recovery step for a quest absent from the log. A UI reset or reinstall is not known from these sources to restore a particular quest, so do not rely on either as a guaranteed fix.
