Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If a Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet will not evolve, first check how it gained its last level, then verify that species’ exact evolution condition. A level gained in a Let’s Go battle does not trigger a level-based evolution, according to Pokémon Support. Other Pokémon may need an item, a move, a walk followed by a level-up, a battle condition, or multiplayer.
1. Check how your Pokémon gained its last level
For an evolution that happens at a certain level, the way the Pokémon gained that level matters. Pokémon Support says a level gained through an ordinary battle or by using an Exp. Candy or Rare Candy can trigger a level-based evolution. A level gained in a Let’s Go battle does not. Pokémon Support’s guidance is on a Japanese-language page; this is a paraphrase, not an English quotation.

Let’s Go auto-battles can award experience, but that level-up is not the same as leveling through a regular battle or candy for this purpose. If the Pokémon’s species evolves at a level, gain another level through an ordinary battle or use an Exp. Candy or Rare Candy, then see whether the evolution begins.
2. Confirm the species’ actual evolution condition
Not every evolution is triggered by reaching a level. The condition may involve using an item, knowing or using a move, walking with Let’s Go, completing a battle task, playing in a Union Circle, or collecting coins and then leveling up. Check the requirement for the specific Pokémon rather than relying on a level you remember or a general evolution guide.

#1 Best Overall
- Embark on a new Pokémon adventure
- Catch, battle, and train Pokémon in the Paldea Region, a vast land filled with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, small towns, and sprawling cities.
- Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea.
- Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.
Serebii’s Scarlet and Violet evolution-method reference lists examples of these conditions:
- Evolution stones: Crabrawler and Cetoddle use an Ice Stone; Capsakid uses a Fire Stone; Tadbulb uses a Thunder Stone.
- Other items: Charcadet uses version-specific armor, while Applin can use a Syrupy Apple to evolve into Dipplin.
- Move conditions: Primeape must use Rage Fist 20 times before leveling up; Girafarig must know Twin Beam when it levels; Dunsparce must know Hyper Drill when it levels.
- Battle condition: Bisharp must defeat three Bisharp holding Leader’s Crests while in a group with Pawniard, then level up to evolve into Kingambit.
- Multiplayer condition: Finizen evolves by battling while in a Union Circle with other players.
- Coin collection: Gimmighoul evolves after collecting 999 Gimmighoul Coins and then leveling up.
These examples illustrate why a level-up alone may not be enough; check the reference for the Pokémon you are trying to evolve.

3. For a walking evolution, walk first and level up afterward
Rellor, Pawmo, and Bramblin each require 1,000 steps outside the Poké Ball in one go through Let’s Go, followed by a level-up, according to Serebii’s evolution-method reference. Make sure you complete the walking requirement before gaining the level that should trigger the evolution.
Do not confuse using Let’s Go to walk with gaining a level in a Let’s Go battle: Pokémon Support says the latter does not trigger a level-based evolution. The cited reference does not establish how the walking counter behaves if a walk is interrupted, so avoid assuming a reset rule.

4. Check access and setup for trade or multiplayer evolutions
If your Pokémon’s condition involves trading or a Union Circle, make sure you have unlocked the relevant multiplayer feature and are using the required activity. Nintendo Support says Poké Portal becomes available after you reach the first Pokémon Center in Los Platos; its instructions cover setting up Link Trade and Union Circle. See Nintendo’s multiplayer setup guide for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. Nintendo also notes that players can trade and play together across the Scarlet and Violet versions in its game tips.
Unlocking multiplayer does not by itself satisfy a species’ condition. Confirm whether that Pokémon needs a trade, a Union Circle, or another specific step.

- Only one code for a Hisuian Zoroark can be used in either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. Upon purchase of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, an email with your code will be sent to the email address registered to your Nintendo Account. From the in-game menu, go to the Poké Portal, then select Mystery Gift, select Get with Code/Password, and then enter your code.
- The Mystery Gift option can be found within the Poké Portal menu option in the X menu after you unlock the feature in the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. (This occurs after about 1 to 1.5 hours of gameplay, though individual gameplay time may vary.) An internet connection and a Nintendo Account is required to redeem the item in game. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required. Each item can only be redeemed once.
5. Treat a glitch as a possibility only after checking the requirement
Nintendo publishes update history and documents individual fixes, but the sources cited here do not establish a current general bug that prevents Pokémon from evolving. Check the evolution method and the level-up trigger first. If the Pokémon still will not evolve, note its species, current level, the exact action that raised its level, and the game version before looking for advice about a possible bug.
