If no games work on your Xbox One S, the title alone does not reveal the cause. First work out whether games are missing, failing to install, or installed but unable to launch; then check whether apps work and note any exact error message. Those details point to the right next step without assuming the console needs repair.
First identify what “not working” means
Try to describe the failure as precisely as possible before changing settings or buying anything. Check one game that used to work and, if available, another game with a different format or account relationship.

- Missing: The game does not appear in your library.
- Installation failure: It appears, but will not download or finish installing.
- Launch failure: It is installed, but will not open, closes immediately, or displays an error.
- Loading or freeze: It opens but gets stuck or stops responding.
Also check whether apps fail, and whether the problem affects both disc and digital games. Record the exact error text. If only one game is affected, use that game’s error and support information; if many games fail in the same way, investigate shared factors such as network access, account access, or console software first.
Check network access and the account for digital games
If the console is offline, reconnect it to the network and confirm that you are signed in to the account associated with the digital game or subscription. Some titles depend on network access, and offline play is not guaranteed for every game. If the game is tied to a subscription, check that the account with access is signed in and that the subscription still provides access to that title. A network or entitlement issue is only one possibility; it does not explain every launch or installation failure.
If a game is missing from your library
Microsoft Support recommends checking My games & apps > Ready to install for a game that is not visible among installed titles. You can also check the Microsoft Store for compatibility information for the game or app. See Microsoft Support: Trouble pushing an app or game to a device.

Check for an Xbox One system update
Use Microsoft’s Xbox One system update instructions to check the console’s software status. The guide also refers to the Keep my console up to date setting. An update is worth checking, but the fact that games fail does not establish that the console is out of date.
Choose the official guide that matches the failure
Once you know whether the problem is starting a game, installing it, or starting the console itself, use the corresponding Xbox Support guide rather than applying a fix for a different symptom:

If the issue continues across multiple titles after you have checked account and network access, library visibility, installation, and console software, contact Xbox Support or a qualified repair provider for diagnosis. The information in the question does not establish that storage or another component has failed, so avoid buying a replacement drive, repair part, or console until a diagnosis identifies a hardware problem.
