Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Adults play Roblox for much the same reasons they play other social games: to play with friends, to find a steady supply of player-made experiences, and because the platform now offers a wider range of genres and styles than its early reputation suggested. Roblox’s own reporting shows that adult cohorts are growing. But its headline adult percentages come from users who have completed age checks. They are not a percentage of every account on the platform, and they say nothing about why any individual adult logs in.
What the adult figures actually measure
Roblox’s most-cited adult statistics come from its SEC filings and shareholder letters. Each one uses a different base, so they cannot be combined into a single “share of Roblox adults.” The table below lists the figures as the company reported them.
| Metric | Value as reported | Period | Base or scope | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Average daily active users (DAUs) | 127 million across more than 180 countries | Calendar 2025 | All users, adults and minors combined | Roblox Corporation 2025 Form 10-K, filed with the SEC in 2026 |
| Over-18 share of DAUs | 26% | Q1 2026 | Age-checked DAUs only; not all accounts | Roblox Corporation Q1 2026 shareholder letter |
| Over-18 DAUs, United States | Up 40% year over year | Q1 2026 | United States growth rate, not a share | Roblox Corporation Q1 2026 shareholder letter |
| Over-18 hours played, United States | Up 40% year over year | Q1 2026 | United States growth rate, not a share | Roblox Corporation Q1 2026 shareholder letter |
| Users aged 18–34, United States | Up more than 50% year over year | Q1 2026 | United States growth rate, not a share | Roblox Corporation Q1 2026 shareholder letter |
| Monetization, over-18 compared with under-18 | Over-18 users monetized more than 50% higher | Q1 2026 | Company-reported comparison; spending, not motive | Roblox Corporation Q1 2026 shareholder letter |
The most recent figures here come from Roblox’s Q1 2026 shareholder letter. Later quarterly reports may have updated them, so check the current letter before quoting a number.
Why growth rates are not the same as a share
A 40% year-over-year rise in over-18 users tells you that the adult group grew quickly from its earlier base. It does not tell you whether adults now make up a larger part of the platform, because under-18 users may have grown at a similar or faster rate. The one share figure, 26%, is also narrower than it looks. It describes the users who completed Roblox’s age checks, and Roblox does not state what share of all accounts have been age-checked. Any sentence about “a quarter of Roblox users” overstates the evidence.

The 127 million figure is a different kind of number. It is a platform-wide average for 2025 and includes everyone. It is the right figure for the size of the platform, and the wrong one for estimating the adult population.
Why adults are on the platform
No source in this review measures adult motivation directly. The explanations below are the platform characteristics Roblox documents, and each is offered as a plausible draw rather than a ranked reason.

Playing with friends
Roblox’s Creator Hub user-base page describes social connection as part of the platform’s culture and notes that many users play with friends. For adults, this is probably the most common everyday reason to return: a shared game with people they already know is a low-friction way to stay in touch. The company does not publish the share of adults who come for friends, so treat this as a likely explanation, not a measured one.
A catalogue that now covers more ground
In its Q4 2025 shareholder letter, Roblox said it is investing in experiences with different genres, gameplay mechanics, and visual styles aimed at older cohorts. This matters because the platform’s early reputation rested on a narrower set of child-oriented games. A wider catalogue gives adults more reasons to find something they want to play. It does not mean that every adult finds the platform appealing, or that the catalogue has become predominantly adult in tone.

Creating as well as playing
Roblox describes itself as a creator economy as well as a game platform. Adults can build and publish experiences, not just play them. This is one reason adult presence can persist: a person who builds games on the platform has a reason to stay beyond occasional play. The sources do not say how many adults create primarily rather than play, and they do not give adult creator growth figures. Any claim about the size of that group would go beyond the evidence.
Growing up on the platform
Roblox’s audience changes as its younger users age. The company reports its older cohorts separately, which suggests that some adults are people who joined as children and kept playing. This is a reasonable explanation for why a familiar platform keeps its users. The sources do not quantify how much of today’s adult presence comes from long-term retention of childhood users compared with new adult sign-ups.

What the evidence does not establish
- Adult motives. No independent, representative survey in this review establishes the main reasons adults use Roblox.
- Survey scope. Roblox and Ipsos’s 2026 Immersive Report surveyed users aged 13 to 30. It is useful for understanding user experience, but it is not a population estimate of adults generally.
- Platform-wide age mix. Roblox’s Creator Hub says the platform now has more users aged 13 or older than under 13. That describes the whole user base and does not separate out adults or explain their reasons for playing.
- Adult creators. The share of adults who create, and how fast that group is growing, is not reported.
Age checks and how they affect the numbers
Roblox’s February 5, 2026 post, “Moving Beyond Self-Reported Age,” describes the move away from self-reported birthdates. Roblox says age checks for communication features were rolled out globally in January 2026, and it has described age-based accounts and communication settings. The stated aim is to shape age-appropriate communication and discovery. These systems are the reason the over-18 figures are based on age-checked users, so they also set the limit on how far those figures can be read. Implementation details may change, so check Roblox’s current safety documentation for the present rules.
Age checks do not explain adult growth. They affect who appears in the age-based figures and how communication is governed. They are not a cause of more adults joining.
