Why Battlefield 6 Players Were Disappointed With Rush in the 2025 Open Beta

The Rush debate began in Battlefield 6’s August 2025 Open Beta. Players criticized 12v12, EA cited pacing and map flow, and balancing continued after launch.

During the August 2025 Battlefield 6 Open Beta, some players objected to Rush’s 12v12 format, while EA said the debate also involved map flow and the mode’s tactical pace. Developers shortened the armed M-COM detonation timer during the beta, but EA’s broader answer was to defend lower default player counts—and later make further map-balance changes.

What Rush players criticized during the beta

The controversy was about the beta version of Rush, not a new October 2026 announcement. Contemporaneous coverage reported that 12v12 was a prominent complaint and described some players as disappointed with the mode. That reaction was reported, not measured by a poll or shown to represent every player. GamesRadar+’s beta coverage also reported that developers shortened the time between arming an M-COM and its detonation while the beta was live.

EA’s own August 21, 2025 debrief described a wider discussion: “When it comes to Rush, the conversation we observed wasn’t just about player count, but also how maps play, and the tactical experience they offer.” The Battlefield Team’s account is the publisher’s summary of feedback; it does not establish how many players held any particular view. Why EA defended lower default player counts

EA placed Rush in the context of its history, associating the mode’s roots with Bad Company’s Gold Rush and describing its typical historical range as 12v12 to 16v16. The team said that experiments with higher counts had produced overwhelming defenses, stalled frontlines, and too many matches ending in the first sector. Its stated goal in lowering the default count was to improve combat flow and preserve a tactical, methodical experience.

That rationale addresses a design trade-off: more players can mean more action, but in Rush they can also intensify defensive pressure and make it harder for attackers to advance. EA’s position was that player counts should fit the map and mode rather than be fixed everywhere: “Rather than locking maps and modes to a fixed player count, our philosophy is to adapt to best fit the intended experience.” EA also distinguished Breakthrough as a mode designed for higher player counts. These are the publisher’s design claims, not proof that players agreed with the choices.

EA said its Portal tools would let players experiment with larger Rush player counts at launch. That offered an alternative for players who wanted bigger matches, while EA’s standard Rush setup aimed at the flow and pacing it described.

What changed during the beta—and what happened later

Live-beta M-COM timer adjustment

The reported timer change was a quick, specific adjustment: the armed M-COM took less time to detonate. It should not be confused with a complete redesign of Rush or the later map-balance work.

Launch plans for layouts and playlists

In its launch-planning update, EA said Rush and Breakthrough layouts had been revised for attacker-defender balance. It also said Rush would be a verified mode in the Server Browser and described a Breakthrough & Rush playlist. These were EA’s stated plans for launch. EA’s Play Your Way update also reported 92,351,578 hours played across the Open Beta; that overall figure says nothing specific about Rush participation or dissatisfaction.

Post-launch M-COM map changes

On December 3, 2025, EA described additional work across Rush and Breakthrough to improve attacker flow, reduce defender oversaturation, and clarify objectives. It said Rush M-COM locations on Manhattan Bridge and Liberation Peak had been adjusted to give attackers more reliable access and smooth movement between sectors. This shows the beta timer tweak was not the end of EA’s Rush balancing. EA’s December update details those changes.

Was Rush fixed?

The available updates establish a sequence of changes, not a single moment when Rush was definitively “fixed”: a detonation-timer adjustment during the beta, launch-planned layout revisions, and later M-COM location changes on two maps. Whether those changes resolved players’ concerns is not established by the cited updates.

EA’s September 2, 2026 Tidal Strike community update discusses feedback-led work on Breakthrough on Tsuru Reef and other combat systems, but the reviewed material does not announce a Rush-specific adjustment. It therefore should not be described as the latest Rush fix.

What the beta numbers can—and cannot—say

EA reported that more than 600,000 hours were streamed and more than 30 million hours watched during the Open Beta. Those are overall beta figures, not Rush-specific viewing figures. Likewise, the 92,351,578 hours EA said were played across the beta do not measure how popular Rush was or how many players disliked it. No percentage of dissatisfied players or Rush-specific participation figure is established by these sources.
