Blizzard’s official site now lists BlizzCon for September 12–13, 2026; that return is later context, not an explanation for the 2024 decision.
What Blizzard said about canceling BlizzCon 2024
In a statement quoted in a Blizzard-hosted forum post published April 25, 2024, Blizzard said: “After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024.” Read the quoted announcement.
The wording confirms the decision and that Blizzard had considered it over the preceding year. It does not identify a particular cause. The public statement does not establish that the event was canceled because of finances, staffing, a scheduling conflict, operational problems, or any other specific internal factor.
Why explanations from other BlizzCon cancellations do not answer this
Blizzard gave health and safety considerations and changing public guidance as context for an earlier cancellation, and discussed possible online engagement and esports alternatives. That explanation concerned a different edition and should not be presented as the reason for canceling BlizzCon 2024. Blizzard’s earlier cancellation update.

Blizzard also previously said it had paused planning for BlizzConline while it reimagined a future event. That broader planning history does not explain the 2024 decision. Blizzard’s “Reimagining BlizzCon” post.
When is BlizzCon coming back?
Blizzard’s official BlizzCon website lists the event for September 12–13, 2026. This confirms a later return to the calendar, but Blizzard’s decision to hold a 2026 event does not reveal why it skipped 2024. Check the official BlizzCon site.
