If you can’t access an old Pokémon GO account, first check that you’re signing in with the same email address and login provider you used before. A level-one profile often means you’ve entered a different account—not that your progress has been erased. If the account is correct, recover the password through its login provider, check for a temporary connection or authentication problem, and use Niantic support for account-specific recovery or a suspension appeal.
Start by checking whether you’re in the wrong account
If Pokémon GO opens to a level-one profile, don’t assume your old progress is gone. Niantic says this can happen when you sign in with a different email address or login method from the one used to create the original account. Sign out, then try the original email-and-provider combination. If you can still access the profile that’s open, note its linked email and login methods before signing out.

“I don’t remember my email address or login provider”
Use Niantic’s Account Recovery flow to identify the account details, if you still know the exact Trainer Name or an email address linked to the account and can receive a verification code at that email. The recovery flow can provide a snapshot with details such as the account’s email, Trainer Name, level, and associated login providers. Spelling matters; an old screenshot may help you confirm the Trainer Name.

Follow the current instructions in Niantic’s Account Recovery Frequently Asked Questions. The recovery flow depends on access to the linked email; it does not guarantee that support can identify or restore an account when those details are unavailable.
Reset the password with the login provider
Pokémon GO does not store your account password. Reset it through the provider you used to sign in, such as Google, Facebook, Apple, Niantic Kids, or Pokémon Trainer Club, as applicable to your account. Check the provider’s spam or junk folder if its reset message does not arrive. The login options available can vary by account, so check Niantic’s current password help page rather than assuming every provider is available for your account.

If the recovery email or verification code is missing
- Check the spelling of the Trainer Name or email and look in spam or junk folders.
- If you used Sign in with Apple and selected Hide My Email, the account may use an Apple relay address ending in
privaterelay.apple.com. Try the relay address or the Trainer Name route in the recovery flow. - Niantic’s recovery FAQ describes a cooldown of up to 24 hours after certain Apple relay or recovery attempts. If one begins, wait rather than making repeated guesses; support cannot remove that security cooldown.
- If you can’t access the linked email, contact Niantic support and ask the email provider whether the mailbox can be restored or the account email updated.
Other recovery blocks can include a suspended account, CAPTCHA failure, an invalid verification code, a typo, or entering a Trainer Name or email associated with a different account. A suspended account cannot be recovered through the normal recovery flow until the suspension is lifted.
“Unable to authenticate” or “Failed to log in”
These messages do not by themselves mean your account was terminated. Niantic lists a temporary server issue or a poor network connection as possible causes. Check that your connection works, wait briefly, then close and reopen Pokémon GO. See Niantic’s guidance for “Unable to authenticate” or “Failed to log in”.

For Android players using a Google account, Niantic also suggests removing and re-adding the Google account used for the game. Before doing so, make sure you have time to complete the process: removing an account temporarily removes its associated email, contacts, settings, and other information from local storage until it is added back and resynced. Niantic’s broader sign-in troubleshooting guide has the relevant instructions.
Contact support or appeal a suspension
For an ordinary sign-in problem, use the current sign-in support route and choose the issue that matches what is happening. If you can open the game, Niantic’s in-app route is Map View > Main Menu > Settings > Help, then the support or chat control. See How to Contact Support for current options.

If you believe the account was suspended, use the sign-in help route and select “Ban Appeal.” Don’t treat an authentication error alone as proof of a ban: temporary login trouble can produce similar symptoms.

Niantic allows eligible players to link an additional login provider, which can give you another way to access the account. Before linking one, confirm that the provider account is yours and works. Niantic says only one account per provider can be linked, child accounts don’t have the multiple-provider option, and unlinking a provider may affect access to other Niantic games that use it.
