If you can’t log into an Epic Games account that used to work, the cause may be incorrect credentials, an unavailable two-factor authentication (2FA) method, a changed or inaccessible email, a linked-account mismatch, a browser or Launcher session problem, or an account that needs recovery. Start with the error message and where it appears; repeating the same sign-in attempt is unlikely to help. Epic’s error guide maps common messages to different next steps.
What to check first
Before changing settings, note the exact error and whether you are signing in through a browser, the Epic Games Launcher, or a linked console or social account. Then check:
- Whether you can access the email address associated with the Epic account.
- Which 2FA methods you can still use.
- Whether the sign-in problem occurs in one place or across both the browser and Launcher.
- Whether you are using the platform account you previously linked to Epic.
These details determine whether you need a password reset, another verification method, a session fix, or account recovery.
Fix the error you see
“Invalid Credentials” or a forgotten password
Check that you entered the email address attached to the Epic account, then use the Forgot Password option. If the details appear correct, Epic also recommends turning off browser autofill and checking that your keyboard is using the expected language. See Epic’s login error guide.

Password reset email or account email is unavailable
Epic’s recovery flow can send a security code to the account email and prompt you to create a new password. If you cannot access that inbox, choose the lost-email option in the recovery flow and follow the requested steps instead of repeatedly trying a reset. Start at Epic account recovery; Epic may request additional information to locate and verify the account.
2FA code is missing, expired, or rejected
For an email code, check spam and request a fresh code. Use the newest code rather than one from an earlier request. If another method is configured, select Try another way. For an authenticator code, wait for a new one and make sure the device clock is set to sync automatically. If you no longer have the authenticator or phone, try email verification or a saved authenticator backup code. Epic describes these options in its account sign-in guidance and its help page for being locked out by authenticator or SMS 2FA.

The sign-in page keeps returning you to login
A repeated login loop can result from cached session data or conflicting cookies. Try these steps:
- Clear the browser cache and cookies, or try a private window or a different browser.
- Disconnect a VPN or proxy temporarily and try signing in again.
- If the issue is in the Epic Games Launcher, fully close the Launcher and clear its cache before reopening it.
Epic’s login-loop instructions cover browser and Launcher troubleshooting.

A console or social sign-in opens the wrong account
A platform sign-in can lead to a different Epic account from the one you intended if the platform account is not linked as expected. Confirm which Epic account is connected to that PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Facebook, Google, or other external account. Try signing in with the Epic account email instead; for some linking errors, Epic also suggests trying another browser. If the platform account is already linked to another Epic account, use Epic’s error guidance or contact support rather than repeatedly unlinking accounts.
Recover an account when email access or ownership may have changed
Use Epic’s recovery route if the account email is unknown, inaccessible, changed, or does not identify the account you expect. The flow begins with Sign in, then Trouble signing in. Enter the email you think is associated with the account; if Epic finds it, the next step may use configured 2FA or an email security code. Choose the relevant lost-access option if the email is unavailable or points to the wrong account, and provide the information Epic requests. Start with Epic’s account recovery instructions.

If you suspect someone took over the account
Secure the email inbox before focusing on the Epic password. If you can access the inbox, change its password and enable its 2FA; if you cannot, recover it through the email provider. Then try Epic’s recovery process. A previously linked PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Facebook, Google, or other external account may still let you sign in, but that alone does not restore control of an email address that someone else now controls. If the Epic email was changed or normal recovery fails, submit an account recovery request through Epic’s guidance for a compromised account you cannot access. After regaining access, reset the Epic password and enable 2FA again.
Epic password requirements
Epic’s password-reset help page says a new password must contain at least 10 characters, include at least one number and one letter, have no spaces, and differ from the last five passwords. Because account rules can change, check the current password reset instructions if a new password is rejected.
