The right fix depends on what you see: check Epic’s service status first, then use the matching steps below.
Start with the message or symptom you see
| What happens | Documented cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| “Finding server” or a matchmaking error as the event starts | Temporary server issues from high demand | Restart Fortnite, check Epic Games Status and Fortnite Status, then wait a few minutes and retry if servers are overloaded. Epic’s live-event guidance says not to close the game when this occurs. |
| Your party cannot all get into the event | Party matchmaking may be slower during live events | Have each player try to join individually. |
| “This experience is locked” | Parental Controls or a regional age-rating limit | Ask a parent or guardian to check the Parental Controls PIN and settings. If the experience’s rating is higher than permitted in your region, access is unavailable there. |
| You are kicked or disconnected during the event | A disconnection or other interruption | Epic says attendance is still counted; check your Locker for any attendance reward after the event. |
| Matchmaking error #5 or #7 | Usually a server or network connection problem | Check service status, restart Fortnite, and follow Epic’s live-event troubleshooting steps. |
If Fortnite is stuck finding a server
High demand at an event’s start can temporarily affect servers and matchmaking. Restart Fortnite, check Epic’s status pages for a reported issue, and retry after a few minutes if Epic indicates the servers are overloaded. Epic’s guidance for this event-start problem says, “Do not close the game.”

For error #5 or #7, Epic says the issue is usually related to server or network connectivity. The error alone does not establish which one is affecting your connection, so check service status before changing settings on your device or network.
If your party cannot enter together
Live-event party matchmaking may take longer than usual. Ask each person in the party to try joining the event individually; Epic says players are counted separately based on their own connection.

If the event says it is locked
Check the account’s Parental Controls. A parent or guardian can enter the Parental PIN to allow access where the restriction is controlled by those settings. Epic’s locked-experience guidance explains that a rating higher than what is allowed in the player’s region can also prevent entry. A regional rating limit cannot be overridden by entering the PIN.
If you were disconnected after getting in
Epic says that being kicked or disconnected during a live event still counts as attendance. Attendance rewards are granted within 72 hours after the event ends. Check the Locker after that period; if the reward is still missing, contact Epic Support and include a brief description, your Epic display name, and the event date.

When the cause is still unclear
The exact event, platform, region, current service status, and displayed error can change the diagnosis. If none of the cases above fits, note the exact message and check Epic’s status resources during the event before trying account or network changes. The support guidance does not establish a single fix that applies to every player.

- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
