If the site works but Play does nothing or shows Error 403, reinstalling or repairing Roblox is usually more relevant than repeatedly refreshing the page.

First, identify which part is failing
| What you see | Most likely area to check |
|---|---|
| Roblox.com is blank, broken, or will not load | Browser cache, cookies, extensions, network, or a Roblox service incident |
| You cannot sign in or CAPTCHA never finishes | CAPTCHA domains, system clock, browser filtering, or account credentials |
| The website loads but Play does nothing | Blocked launch prompt, roblox-player link, extensions, VPN, or missing installation |
| Play repeatedly asks you to install Roblox | Roblox is not installed correctly, or the browser cannot detect the client |
| Error 403 appears after pressing Play | The Roblox client launched from the website did not initialize properly |
| Only one experience fails | The individual experience may be unavailable or broken |
Use the least disruptive fixes first. Do not download an unofficial “Roblox launcher” or disable security software permanently just to make the game start.

If a friend or another device also cannot load Roblox, wait for the service issue to be resolved. If Roblox works elsewhere, continue with the browser and device checks below.
2. Use a supported, updated browser
Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge for Windows, and Chrome, Firefox, and Safari for Mac. Internet Explorer is not supported, and Roblox does not support Linux for computer play. Roblox also recommends trying another supported browser when the current one cannot start an experience. See the current Roblox computer, operating-system, and browser requirements.
- Update your current browser.
- Close every browser window, then open it again.
- Sign in to Roblox.com again.
- Open an experience and select the green Play button.
- If it still fails, repeat the test in another supported browser.
A successful test in another browser points to a setting, extension, cookie, or permission problem in the original browser—not necessarily to a broken Roblox account.

Damaged cache files or stale cookies can make Roblox pages render incorrectly, prevent buttons from responding, or interfere with the launch request. Roblox recommends clearing temporary internet files and cookies in each browser you use to launch Roblox, then restarting the computer. This can sign you out of websites, so make sure you know how you normally sign in before clearing them.
Use your browser’s settings search for clear browsing data or site data, and remove data for Roblox.com. If you cannot find a site-specific option, clear cached files and cookies for the relevant time range, restart the browser, and sign in again. The exact menu names vary between Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.
For Roblox-specific website failures, also follow Roblox’s general website troubleshooting guidance.
4. Temporarily test without extensions, ad blockers, and VPNs
Browser add-ons can interfere with Roblox pages and launch requests. Roblox specifically notes that ad blockers can prevent an experience from fully loading, while its Error 403 guidance recommends disabling active extensions, plugins, and VPNs during diagnosis.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Roblox in a private or incognito window, if your browser allows the necessary launch prompt there.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers and other extensions for Roblox.com.
- Disconnect a VPN and retry.
- Test the Play button again.
Re-enable protections one at a time after testing so you can identify the conflicting setting. This is a diagnostic step, not a recommendation to browse permanently without privacy or security tools.

Roblox says it does not create official browser extensions. Do not install an extension claiming to be an official Roblox tool, particularly one requesting your password, browser cookies, authentication codes, or account credentials. Roblox’s account-safety guidance explains how to avoid these risks.
5. Allow the Roblox launch prompt
The normal desktop process is not entirely contained inside the web page. After you press Play, the browser may ask which application should open the Roblox link. Choose Roblox and, if offered, select the option to remember that choice.
If you previously blocked the request, reset Roblox.com’s site permissions and check the browser’s pop-up or external-application settings. The relevant link may appear as a roblox-player protocol request rather than as a normal pop-up.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →On macOS, Firefox may require you to choose Roblox.app manually in the application chooser. If no Roblox application is available to select, install or reinstall the desktop client before trying the Play button again. Roblox documents the normal installation flow in How to Install and Play Roblox.
6. Repair or reinstall Roblox
If Roblox.com loads but the client will not start, the installation may be incomplete or unable to initialize. This is especially relevant to Error 403. Roblox defines the PC version of Error 403 as a failure of the client launched from the website to initialize properly.
Work through these steps:
- Close Roblox and all browser windows.
- Uninstall Roblox using your operating system’s normal app-uninstall controls.
- On Windows, clear Roblox application data as directed in Roblox’s Error 403 instructions. This is more disruptive than clearing browser cache and may remove local Roblox data.
- Restart the computer.
- Open Roblox.com in a supported browser and install a fresh copy when prompted by Play.
- Sign in and test the same experience again.
Do not confuse clearing browser cookies with removing application data. The latter is a deeper reset and should be reserved for client-initialization problems or instructions that specifically call for it.
Windows: check which Roblox app is installed
Microsoft Store users may have an older app named simply Roblox or the newer app named Roblox – Windows. Roblox says the newer app has a blue icon and replaces the older Store app. Install and sign in to Roblox – Windows; after confirming it works, uninstall the older app if it remains installed. Having an outdated or conflicting Store installation can make it appear that the browser’s Play button is not working.

7. Check firewall and antivirus permissions
A firewall or security program can allow Roblox.com to load while blocking the Roblox client or its connections. Roblox identifies firewall restrictions as a frequent cause of connection problems and also notes that antivirus software can flag or restrict Roblox services.

Use your firewall or antivirus program’s allow list, exceptions, or permitted apps area to allow Roblox. The exact procedure depends on the security product and operating system. Avoid turning protection off indefinitely. If temporarily pausing a security product is necessary for a controlled test, turn it back on immediately and create a narrow Roblox exception instead.
On a school, work, or family-managed computer, you may not have permission to change these settings. Ask the administrator rather than attempting to bypass the device’s controls.
8. Test the network
Roblox may open the website successfully but fail while downloading game assets or joining a server if the connection is slow, unstable, or filtered. Roblox recommends approximately 4–8 Mb/s minimum internet speed and suggests switching from wireless to wired networking where possible.

- Restart the router and retry after the connection is stable.
- Test another experience to determine whether the problem affects Roblox generally.
- Connect the computer to another Wi-Fi network or a temporary mobile hotspot.
- If possible, test a wired connection. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable can help you determine whether unreliable Wi-Fi is the cause, but it will not repair browser cookies, the Roblox client, an account problem, or a Roblox service outage.
- If Roblox works on another network, investigate the original router, DNS configuration, parental controls, firewall, or network filtering.
A network test is useful because it separates a home-network problem from a computer or account problem. It is not a guarantee that wired networking will fix every launch failure.
9. Verify your operating system and device
Roblox’s listed computer requirements include:
- Windows: 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Mac: macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later.
- Linux: unsupported.
- ChromeOS: ChromeOS version 53 or later with Google Play enabled.
For mobile devices, Roblox lists iOS/iPadOS 14 or later and Android 8.0 or later, although the browser-to-desktop-client problem described here mainly applies to computers. A newly released or prerelease operating system may not be supported immediately, so beta OS users should check Roblox’s current requirements before assuming the browser is at fault.
10. Fix login and CAPTCHA failures
If the problem occurs before you can sign in, treat it as a login issue rather than a Roblox Player issue. Roblox recommends checking that CAPTCHA-related domains, including arkoselabs.com and funcaptcha.com, are not being blocked by your browser, DNS filter, firewall, VPN, or network.
- Verify that your computer’s date and time are accurate and set to update automatically.
- Disable only the extension or network filter that is blocking the CAPTCHA, rather than weakening all browser security.
- Try another supported browser or network.
- If your credentials are rejected, use Roblox’s normal password-reset process rather than a third-party “account recovery” utility.
For detailed login-specific guidance, see Roblox’s browser login and logout troubleshooting page.

Error 403
Use Roblox’s Error 403 procedure: update the browser, disable extensions and VPNs, test another network, uninstall and reinstall Roblox, and clear Roblox application data on Windows if the official instructions call for it. Error 403 in this context does not automatically mean your Roblox account has been banned; it can indicate that the website-launched client failed to initialize.
“Could Not Connect,” ID=17, or an endless loading screen
Check firewall and antivirus permissions, connection stability, available bandwidth, and network filtering. Try another network and another experience. If only one experience fails, the experience itself may be empty, overloaded, shut down, badly scripted, or otherwise broken; its creator may need to repair it. Roblox covers these cases in its general connection-problem guidance.
Only one Roblox experience will not open
Do not immediately reinstall Roblox if every other experience works. The individual experience may be unavailable or malfunctioning. Test two or three other experiences, check whether other players can join, and try again later.
Roblox will not open on Linux
Roblox’s official computer requirements state that Linux is unsupported. Changing browsers on Linux will not turn an unsupported operating system into a supported Roblox platform. Use a supported device and operating system instead.
When to contact Roblox Support
Contact Roblox Support if the problem remains after testing a supported browser, clearing relevant browser data, disabling extensions and VPNs, reinstalling the client, and trying another network. Include enough information for support to reproduce the failure:
- Your Roblox username
- The exact error message or error code
- The affected webpage or experience URL
- Your device model
- Your operating-system version
- The browser and version you tested
- The precise steps that reproduce the problem
- Any recent change to the device, browser, security software, router, or internet connection
Do not send your password or authentication codes. A legitimate support request should not require you to provide them to an extension, game, or unofficial troubleshooting service.
Do not install a “Roblox fix” from an unofficial site
Unofficial launchers, exploit tools, browser extensions, account-recovery utilities, and “free Robux” downloads can steal passwords, cookies, or authentication codes. Download Roblox only through Roblox’s official website or trusted platform stores. Roblox says it has no official browser extensions, so a tool making that claim deserves particular suspicion.
If you were trying to buy Robux after restoring access, a Roblox gift card is an optional separate purchase; it cannot fix a browser, launcher, login, network, or Roblox-service problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
The browser may be blocking the roblox-player launch request, an extension or VPN may be interfering, or the installed Roblox client may be damaged. Allow the Roblox launch prompt, test without extensions and VPNs, then reinstall Roblox if the client still will not initialize.
Why does Roblox open in the browser but not start the game?
Roblox may not be installed correctly, the browser may not be permitted to open it, or Windows may have an outdated Store app installed. Check for Roblox – Windows, reset Roblox.com permissions, and install a fresh copy from the official Roblox website.
Why does Roblox keep asking me to install it?
Not necessarily. Roblox describes the PC Error 403 covered here as a failure of the client launched from the website to initialize properly. Reinstalling Roblox, clearing its Windows application data as directed, disabling extensions or VPNs, and testing another network are relevant steps.
Is Roblox Error 403 caused by a ban?
Roblox’s official computer requirements state that Linux is unsupported. A different browser will not resolve that platform limitation; use a supported operating system and device.
Can I play Roblox in a browser on Linux?
The Bottom Line
When Roblox opens in the browser but not in the game, focus on the launch handoff and installed client: allow the Roblox prompt, disable conflicting extensions or VPNs, check security permissions, and reinstall Roblox if necessary. When the website or login itself fails, troubleshoot the browser, CAPTCHA access, network, and Roblox service status first.
